Atleast the chassis having a complete overhaul is positive, maybe the car will actually turn in fast corners next season... Sounds like they will be one step behind again. dont expect any gains untill 2025-26 or the next major overhaul in regulations
Exactly and if we have more of the same next year and 2025 I expect the sport to see a drop in fans/popularity as well. Its natural when this is as predictable as it is now. Sorry but what happens in the fight for P11 is not enough racing for many and for me at times. F1 is this way at times of course.
Could be different if RB get rid of Perez and sign Norris. Doubt that will happen though as Verstappen will be under pressure and we all know what happens when he gets stressed!
Agreed.........Totally lost interest in F1 for some time now, not because SF are not winning, the sport (circus) has moved away from just pure racing. Its all about tyre management and strategy. Never watched the Brazilian GP, the first time in 50 + years I watched another programme while the GP was live on the other channel.
+1 - Ive turned off early on 2 races this year. Knowing nothing would change at the front and highlights show what racing there was for P5 or further back. Easy to digest that later as those results are ok but hardly earth shattering in terms of effect on the racing order overall. I did the same some races with Mercedes dominating. This is worse actually lol. Its F1 of course. Nothing new.
General audience is already complaining about RB dominance. Imagine how that will improve when Norris joins Verstappen.... Instead of only the first place also the second place finisher will be a RB driver, only the order has to be decided. For excitement, I do not believe that the team will allow them to race continuously, perhaps a few laps to establish the order of the day but no more. Nobody wants a repeat of McLaren in 1988 in their team.
Bas, in the world of F! you know nothing is certain. Any joining RB will be undeniably subservient to Vestappen so I kind of agree with Norris, why go down when you are no 1 is a vastly improving team.
For me its actually backfiring on Verstappen, the history books will show utter domination by the team and driver but as you say the commentators and viewers concentrate more on the scraps mid table. Apart from the die hard Mclaren fan, who recalls 1988 with any passion.
Probably Norris has enough self confidence to believe he can lead a team, and bring it to success. Switching to Red Bull would be accepting a second role, IMO.
In 1988 it was unpredictable who would win, Senna or Prost, that in itself was some kind of excitement. McLaren let them race each other for the full season which was good for racing but destroyed the unity within the team. In the later Mercedes years (with Bottas as second driver) and also lately predicting the winner is not exactly rocket science
I don't blame Norris either, it's a very difficult choice to make...stay with the team you've build up and is massively improving, or take the seat in the best team....against the best driver. If you don't perform as good as you hope, it's a potential career ending move. But the offer was made to both lando and Alonso. So the narrative that RB doesn't want a decent team mate for Max can end there and then.
Probably what Red Bull looks for is a #2 driver shadowing Max Verstappen without threatening him. The candidate would simply gather the maximum of points, but have no ambition for himself: the perfect tail gunner.
If that is the case they wouldn't ask Alonso, he is not the type of driver to stay in F1 just for the cash
Alonso isn't the "follow the leader" kind of driver; he would rock the boat, and challenge Max. Red Bull wouldn't like that.
I still think RB should get Bottas in - last 2 seasons have been lacklustre, but he was the perfect tail gunner/no 2. His Q3 run was astounding, would nab the odd win from Lewis and regularly out qualified him. I think he is severely underrated, he is the most potent no 2 I can think of...maybe ever
Don't forget how good Perez can be. 2021 would have ended in a diferent way if not for Sergio amazing defense against Elton in the last race. He's a lot better than he has been showing of late.
No, what's wrong is that the other teams are not allowed to catch up. Restricted testing and development, combined with the budget cap have led to the situation we now have. Given free rein, I am sure the best teams would catch up and F1 have more competition.
