You’re saying that when you depress the plastic release button on the charging cable, you can not remove the charging cable from the charging port with the car locked?

That makes no sense. You have to depress the release button on the charging cable itself to release the cable from the port, but it has no connection to the car’s internal locking system whatsoever.

The release button on the cable itself. Where I’ve circled in blue.
Are you depressing it before you try to remove the cable from the port?

I own a 296GTB since Mar of this year. Above is not true. If u r saying u have to press the remote button twice to open the frunk and retrieve the charging cable, yes that’s true but not to remove the plugged charging cable from the car. There is no mechanism that locks the charging cable to the car except the push button on the charging cable itself that merely holds the cable in correct position to make contact.

My charger has no release button. I have to unlock the car twice to get the cable out. Of course not by pushing twice to fast as the trunk will open. I have a european spec (Luxembourg), one of the first built. I suppose the mecanism changed over time of you have a different mecanism in the US. After the second push on the remote, I here a "click" and the cable is released and can be taken of the car. The is a mecanism that holds the cable attached to the car.

Interesting. Now I’m wondering if cars outside the US (or outside North America) come with a different charging cable and also include a locking mechanism that is tied to the car’s electric locking system.

Would you please post a picture of your charging cable (the end that plugs in your car), as well as your charging port? That would be very helpful.

    Thanks!

The plugs can be electronically locked to the car if they are the IEC 62196 style plug which are similar to SAE J1772 but have additional features as described below. Our E-Tron must have the IEC 62196 style plug since it certainly does get locked while charging.

"The SAE J1772 or Type 1 plug is locked into the car with a hook that is manually operated, mostly by pressing a button with the thumb, which interrupts power. This allows anybody to stop charging and even theft of the cable. To prevent this, the European IEC 62196 Type 2 connector has openings on the side for automatic locking and release, operated by the car owner via remote control. If the car locks or releases its plug, the charger will follow suit according to the PP signal."

Thank you! That explains the confusion. You have a completely different charging setup from the ones that come on the US cars.

My 296 owner review is that for the most part they are nice folks who enjoy their car a great deal. :)

I don't think it's possible to do any of those functions. I've tried myself. Hoping someone has information if it's even possible.

Yeah the dealer demo cars didn't even arrive before the run was sold out! Even the limited 'around the block' initial FNA demo was like 5 mos after I ordered.

I’m pretty sure you aren’t able see the tire temps. Does your owner’s manual say there is a way do it?

I have another bizarre issue, when I unlock the car (twice in my case to get the charger out), I get in the car, close the door and wait. After 10 seconds the car shuts off and the alarm is activated and goes off when I move UNLESS i switch the ignition on, which is very annoying. Does anyone else have this problem ? The dealership says it is for anti-theft reasons ..

The Dealer told me you can see the tire temps, but all I can see is the pressure.

The US owners manual has no information on how to see tire temps. Only pressures.

that is a hell of an oversight on a high performance vehicle. Knowing when the tires are warmed up is key information to avoid sliding the darn thing off the road.

Well, I’d say ESC does a good job preventing that, but I would like to know the temps. I believe the 458 showed tire temps. What other models do?

    I know the F8, 296 and SF90 do not.
