They are half the price too, so that has to be taken into account if you are going to be doing the klms Klunk does.
Not BS. I’m talking about properly maintained, like all my cars. Only the 246 let me down once and that was soon after I bought it, failed fuel pump. And 20+ year old 911 like a 996 will need fettling for sure and they are not cheap n terms of parts etc
The thing is blokes, the worst of the roads are the ones we use on the GG,sorry Jon,they really smash the three Ferrari's I've taken on them. Shagger is much better but has had a couple of whacks. The roads I use to travel to and from, predominantly in Qld, are among the best country roads you'll ever put a car on,as Rob will attest to. The Datto was the best and could well be on a short list, but I gotta sell some stuff,it's noot been a good year
The Roads we traveled last year on your run were fantastic, hence why I was doing it again before the ROO game. The 370 Datto would also be perfect I would never take my E-type on the GG roads ,too rough for the way we drive .
The Datto's problem is that it has buggerall room for luggage and a full size spare...and even then which end do you buy.
Simon if your budget or what you wish to spend is only going to get you into a lower-end 996, would you not be better buying a 370Z for value for bucks .
Plenty of good stuff out there if one wants a auto paddle shift car , A45 ,you can carry a spare tyre and wheel and it will out do most cars ,A3 RS Golf R.
Simon have a look at what 40 to 50k gets you in a A45 or a Golf R, better value than a worn out 996 at 70k plus
You could do a lot worse than a Mk. 7 Golf R, and they came in manual. Superb car. But I suspect it’s not special enough for what Simon is looking for. A 911 is probably the right choice. Or a VL Calais…
Don't think the Golf was ever a sedan, but what is your criteria? Can I assume you just want something that works, isn’t a pain in the arse to keep on the road because it breaks down every five minutes, parts cost a bomb and take six months to arrive, and when they finally do your chosen mechanic is busy for another year, and when he finally looks at it you’ve actually got the wrong part. The car must have a manual gearbox, drive well and have reasonable storage for longer trips. As much as it pains me to say it, Rob is right. 911.
Or an Aston? https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2010-aston-martin-v8-vantage-manual-my11/OAG-AD-22316959 Beautiful car.
