I finally got the car running well and have enjoyed driving the neighborhood. However, I need to pass emissions and currently putting out 2.2% CO.

Smog guy has been cool with prechecks so it doesn’t get flagged in the database. However, he doesn’t know the max allowed and assumes below 2%.

I have 79 308 GTB and wondering if anyone has recent smog test results to share. This way identify how much ground needs to be made prior to real test.

Good ole CA is lower than 2%

    Fresh 308 #'s

    1978 Ferrari:
    CO max HC max
    15MPH 1.30% 201ppm
    25MPH 1.10% 168ppm

    1981 Ferrari
    CO max HC max
    15MPH 0.92% 126ppm
    25MPH 0.72% 99ppm

I'd expect a 1979 to be somewhere in between. Probably closer to the 1978 spec as they are both carb'd.
Well-tuned and has its "stuff," it should easily clear those numbers. Also, it should run great when it passes.

the HC is fine but the CO is the pain.
The best numbers I’ve got with running so rough could barely hold idle driving to shop.
It was super hot with stock jetting and stored away cats that don’t rattle and seem to be working.
I do have a smaller AC jet at 160 compared to 225 and not sure if that is driving up the CO. The 160 was put in by rebuild shop and I didn’t get the 225 back. Seems like $40 for 8 AC jets and wondering if u all think it would help.
Also, seems like aftermarket cats would be $800 for each and wondering if u think that would help.

Thanks and it does confirm the 1.1% at 25 mph - seems unattainable for me without significant jetting or cat change.

That's great that the HC is good. That one can be a pita. Slight misfire or carb imbalance. Are you saying that tailpipe (post cat) numbers are tough to get below 2% CO? Do you have any numbers upstream at test ports? This will confirm if cats are cleaning up. Also, you can measure exhaust temps going in and exiting the cats. It should be hotter at the exit.

And how is your A.I.S. equipment? Do you have a good air pump that pumps air past the check valves? I've wasted a lot of tuning time because the air pump was bad. The WSM quotes like (IIRC) 6-8psi at a specific rpm. When A.I.S. is good, the exhaust numbers drop like a stone when you connect it up.

Yes - having difficulty getting post cat less than 2%.
I ran without air pump and co was at 7% with cats. I do have ports on 5-8 bank but haven’t inspected.
The cats were replaced with ones that have been stored away for 30 yrs.

Replaced the 160 air corrector with stock 200. Set the idle mixture screws 2 turns out and idle was erratic but stable enough to take down for another pretest.
The co at 35 mph was 1.08 and decided to run the test. Surprisingly it passed and co levels were much lower than pretest. At least I got my tags now and able to get on the road.
