That may have been what some of the heat in the press conference was about. Seems like Fred was floating the idea of a boycott, but wanted to make sure Merc and McLaren would join in, and Toto wasn't going to annoy Liberty. With only 20 Constructor points between Ferrari and Merc, and only two races left, Ferrari wouldn't want to walk away from Vegas if Merc was adding points.
There is often nothing wrong with purpose built circuits. After the initial cost of building them, they are there to stay, so end up as sound investments. They can be used for several events every year, for track days, as test tract or driving school.
"5 minute epoxy"? Damn. That looks like "quick patch" asphalt. My town in MA "repaved" my street with "quick patch" back in the '80s. My GTV-6 tore that crap up just from making the turn into my driveway.
Here we are in this new era of F1, where everyone whines "WHAA! The cost of racing is high!", and the top teams have to count dollars, and the FIA just bent Ferrari over, and screwed them a good 500k+ repairs for something that is their fault, and Ferrari are told not only fix it themselves, but that they'll be penalized 10 places for doing so!!! Ferrari should've put the cars on the trucks and left Vegas. Let Liberty see that there is a limit to the **** the teams will eat.
Scheduled for 2AM Vegas time for 90 minutes. Then delayed to 2:15 AM. Then 2:30 AM. Started at 2:30 AM Vegas time for 90 minutes. 4:30 AM here. I started the DVR and then fell asleep until just as it ended at 6AM here (4AM Vegas). I'll skim through it later.
was hoping for a replay...oh well... and LOL@FP3... really guys? (source: watch espn.com) Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hey guys FP2. https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/eee716f3-4722-4e0b-b99d-5e5ad1bd4a81 sign in with your cable provider...worked for me with my streaming... they even have the interviews before hand.
Ferrari pulling out in the middle of that dog and pony show would have been the last straw. Liberty probably wanted to show the rest of the world how F1 should be done. The best show in town hasn't been rehearsed it seems.
This is sad. Liberty has screwed up several aspects of this race already. They'll have the opportunity to make things right next year. Hope they are taking notes. Ross Brawn, your customers are talking to you, are you listening?!?
Me neither - but for many who have been there it was the symbol for being in the middle of nowhere and completely boring. Only reason why I mentioned it...
Hospitality units above the pit straight, where weekend passes had sold for $50,000 before the event, were also emptied, with the lights switched off by the time the session got underway. SO..............about those ticket and hotel room prices LOL
The only positive for Ferrari here is they will get extra media coverage on the story and more folks will walk into Ferrari stores and buy cars and Ferrari will increase sales. Back to Vegas, complete fail from the folks on the ground putting this event on, and how F1 has mismanaged the situation. This should make for a great episode of Drive to Survive.
