I'm looking at purchasing a 10,000 mile 2008 Spider and am concerned about the header issue. The seller states that headers are stock. Should I verify that the headers are MKII or OK to assume they are, since its a 2008?

The TSB says old manifolds up to assembly no 77948 - by now they should have been changed - if that does not answer go look at all the previous threads some of which have pictures of the differences

My very late 08 had its original manifolds replaced at about two years and 9,000 miles. The. Replacements were still good at 25.6K miles and 13 years old.

It seems to be a crap shoot but removing the muffler rigid mounts (to the gearbox) appears to help.

Doesn't matter, just replace them after you buy the car.

People are replacing the MKII manifolds? Why?

The MK II manifolds crack too.

Like a previous poster said, remove the brackets or change the brackets to the ones that are able to move as the manifolds heat up and expands. Everyone’s fairly confident that it’s the expansion that cracks the manifolds. Ferrari has them mounted without any allowance for expansion.

I have a 2009 430 with 14,000 miles on it. When I bought it 3 years ago it already had the Capristo brackets installed. I haven’t had any cracking or exhaust leaks. I also don’t drive it like a lunatic that will heat up the exhaust way more than just cruising it.
I live in CA so changing to aftermarket exhaust manifolds is not allowed if I want to pass the smog check every two years.

In addition to what Extreme1 said, replacing the OEM manifolds with aftermarket headers is probably the one acceptable modification that actually adds value (to most people). I replaced my 3k mile old MKII manifolds with Fabspeed headers and put them away in the event I ever sell the car and the next owner insists upon having them.
