Here I am, back in the driver's seat with a delightful '88 Red/Black TR, running smoothly. Now, my aging bones suddenly suggest my back goes out more than I do. The dilemma: endure the discomfort or consider trading for a used, comfortable FF. After perusing the FF chat, I'm uncertain about their maintenance being any better than a TR, especially concerning PTU failures but they are a little easier on the ingress/egress. Owners with both, how would you choose if you could only keep one, putting aesthetics aside?

A TR may not be right for you but an FF will be a money pit. The 4 wheel drive system was ridiculously stupid engineering and they had to have known it at the outset.
If that doesn't matter, buy it.

Any options for strengthening your back and/or for using a back support belt?

I’m 62 and quite horizontally challenged and can still duck under guillotine doors (Diablo) and get in and out of cars with like no road clearance (Ford GT) and I just worked out regularly for years.

You can’t ignore the way the FF looks…..the control switches should be labeled in braille. Maybe a nice 612 instead?

Love your humor. Are you suggesting it was designed by Stevie Wonder ?

2 completely different experiences. FF has utility value, TR has none. if you forced me to choose between my 512tr and my FF i wld never choose the FF over the TR.

Leaving the TR issue aside, I could only operate a FF station wagon if I could be assured that I would never have to see the outside of it.

It may drive ok (but for the paddle shift thingy) but it is an awful looking thing. Not sure how I could get from the house to the garage and get into the car with that bag on my head.

I got mine in 2011 and still dont like the looks, but the drive is monumentally better than ok. Its pretty insane, and the sound is insane.

I have both. Totally different cars. Both awesome machines in very different ways. I love driving both. You can go back and forth here on why everyone will have their own reason where each one is better. But it sounds like you are trying to make a decision which suits you due to your potential physical concerns. I think in your case, FF is all around a better pick when it comes to creature comforts against the Testarossa. As far as the PTU, if you end up having the issue, the cost for that repair is around the same as an engine out for a Testarossa. More or less. So that’s how I would look at it. If I had to pick one, with back issues, it would be the FF. But you should test drive a FF and decide yourself.
