    Hello guys,

Recently we have noticed that the ignition switch on a 1963 250 GTE 2+2 have become very hot after use. This has not been a problem in the past. Has anyone run into this problem before? Any solutions to this problem?

    Thank you,
    Kobra

Be careful NOT to diassemble the lock cylinder, re-assembling is a tricky job and requires a special tool. Mine is not pretty - made it in 10 minutes using random junk from trash - but it works, beautifully!

I had this problem and discovered the cause by accident, fortunately. It was due to the brass nuts coming loose. I didn't know about it until the engine started dying upon the switch overheating. It would restart after the switch had a chance to cool, but would die again after a while.

Hmm, thinking about it, the cylinder does not fall apart by itself - two pins at the end need to be removed in order to take it apart. Mine was stuck with a grain of sand wedged in by a pin so it needed to come apart. And yes, I still remember the cold sweat when I realized that reassembling is not going to be very easy!

Crumbling bakelite appears to be a common issue. I was lucky to find a cheap ignition switch for replacement parts.
