Gerald was not "sucked in" by this thread. It had absolutely nothing to do with his participation on this site. As for having an opinion, Gerald's was in line with the general consensus among most historians, which has never waivered. There was never any debate, and so there was no interest in what was being said in this thread. Trust me on this. Neither Gerald, nor any of his peers were sucked in by this thread.
I absolutely hate the current over use of the word ‘curated’…but, this site has ALWAYS been very curated. It was Rob’s choice to do so and, after the sale, apparently still the choice. Which is fine…that’s what owning a site in the US entails. Fchat is a business…expecting it to operate as anything else is not realistic… Participating and expecting otherwise is also not realistic. In this realm…money talks. Interpret that however you need to… Experts will never be required to pick a side. Thread titles will not change if there’s a (very real) possibility it will lead to a frivolous lawsuit. Etc…a very big ETC.
I think what happened here is worthy of Shakespeare. If it got Rob a lot of views so much the better.
I think this is crap. Then why wasn't this thread called the Authenticated REAL Ferrari 0846 owned by Jim G for all those years? Why do we have a 20 page thread saying how crappy our Sponsor Fabspeed is? If anyone has any critiques of me, it is I fight too much, not that I have ever not fought enough. Jack **** has also happened in the last 7 years to the detriment of the community, there are a few dozen users that owe me an apology about that from 7 years ago.
The artificial secrecy has always been amusing. Telaio is very much still a thing, and very much still not a secret society. (After all, the name is right there in my avatar.)
Hey Ed I went years without an F-car after selling the 250; kept looking at cars I couldn't really afford. Then Ed Niles left a 328 in my care for a year and that car readjusted my mindset. I ended up buying a 308 not long after the 328 had gone back to Ed. I'm happy with the 308 for the time being.
Agree. Although I don’t know a large amount of the historians and experts I do know a couple and not a single one of them have indicated they ever believed Jim’s car to be more than a complete and total fake as built/sold by David Piper. In fact, from what I’ve gleaned through various conversations over the years the majority of experts I’ve spoken to all seem to think Jim’s insistence on his story has done more damage to his credibility and involvement with Ferrari than it has even begun to swing opinion the other way. I believe it has also tarnished his other legit cars as they’re piled in with a total fake with dubious claims/parts/history. As the old lawyer saying goes; When the law is on your side, argue the law; when the facts are on your side, argue the law; when neither is on your side, pound the table. Jim tried to use this venue to pound the table and ultimately he failed miserably. Now he’s relegated to Wikipedia, Facebook, insta, and other places he can edit and moderate retorts of fact as he pounds away at the table with no facts.
Hi Rob, I think I understand your point and your position with respect to leaving the thread here/not moving it to Replicas. Is there a scenario you could envision where changing the name to 'The (one and only) Pretend '0846' "che stronzo" Thread' would be acceptable? By removing the word 'Debate' my thinking is that it establishes that there's no longer a real debate (to waste 100% of your time). It is what it is. Or to borrow from the Latin often quoted by the now not present JG, 'Res Ipsa Loquitor'/ The thing speaks for itself.
Ahhhhh yes. Thank you for reminding me of the pompous douchebaggery horse**** we no longer have to suffer with since JG left.
This Noble P4 is now offered on dealer consignment with invoices dating back to 2013 and a clean Arizona title describing it as a 1985 Ferrari 308 GTB. strange 308 GTB ! ! ! if so then it must say 308GTB quatrovalvole because in 1985 it was no carb car anymore The 2.9-liter V8 is said to have been sourced from a 1975 Ferrari 308 and features four Weber 40 DCNF carburetors and Electromotive crank-fire ignition. 2.9 ltr??? all fake here. nothing is impossible in the internet. cruel world
Best part of the BaT prose: "The 330 P4 was developed by Ferrari for the 1967 racing season in an effort to regain ground in the company’s rivalry with Ford. In addition to a P3 that was modified to P4 specification, three examples of the original P4 were built and helped Ferrari establish a 1-2-3 sweep at Daytona en route to the 1967 International Championship for Sports-Prototypes."
I've never used the term "top historians." As for which experts were being referred to in my exchange with Texas Forever, I identified two groups. If you were familiar with those two groups at the time, then you already know who they were. And if not, then I'm sorry, but the comment wasn't directed to you.
