Keep in mind Ferrari had a significant brain drain since late 2022, with some replacements only starting their new job around now. Ferrari also needed a concept change as clearly the SF22/23 had significant faults and seemed to have limitations as well.

Aston Martin and Mclaren both have a head start having run their new concepts for the whole year and a good part of the year respectively and will have learned from it. Ferrari won't learn from their new concept with actual practical results until the first test week of 2024.

To say that anything but 2nd place would be a failure is putting expectations way too high.

Fred has been dealt a **** hand of cards; but the operation errors that where so so significant are starting to disappear. They're not completely gone yet (see the ''bet on the safety car'' as a strategy so early on in the race in Abu Dhabi) but nowhere near as frequent as under Binotto's reign.

I think we should all prepare for Mclaren to be the 2nd best team for next year. They've had some very strong people join their team over the last couple of years and more this year. Their car in 2023 was still limited by the chassis which is expected to change for 24.

Cardile said in Italian press that their 2024 car won't be a Red Bull copy.
A brand new chassis with a completely redesigned floor and rear end.
A complete revolution would have been too risky according to Vasseur in this era of budget limitation.
    Seems rational to me..

Most probably, RB will still be out of reach for the championships (manufacturers and drivers) next year.
For me the real sign of improvement will not be the position, but how close (in performance and points) Ferrari will be - this year they were very far from RB, and just matching Mercedes who had completely failed their car design.
If next year Mercedes comes out with a very good car, and McLaren continues to dramatically improve, being 3rd or even 4th might be (although from far away it would not look so) a good result, provided the points gap will be low.

I don’t think Mclaren will improve ( just my own modest feeling).
I would rather see Ferrari and Mercedes clearly outsmartes them..

Yes, Red Bull and Verstappen are running the table on everybody, but one important thing to keep in mind is that they aren’t finishing a minute in front of everyone, yet… Perez has showed that the car itself isn’t unbeatable and its performance advantage should still very well be in reach. It’s a combination of Verstappen having a notably better car and being practically flawless all season. It will be interesting to see who will close the performance gap to Red Bull, and even with many seasons of disappointment, Ferrari can never be counted out of the conversation.

I’ve had enough of Mercedes and I would rather see Norris and Piastri duke it out for a championship or Alonso win a third. Enough with those *******s.

I really hope Ferrari can sort out the launch systems too. IDK if its a clutch thing or what. It just seems they are painfully slow off the line. Some times that can make a huge difference going into the first corner and opening up a lead so you are in clean air. Seems like a bit of low hanging fruit to me

All this would be solved with a simple two months of open testing before the season, and a month of open testing during the summer break.

It never was sold in the past...it is testing...trying out designs and performance. The idea is that when they show up at the first race, it is actually a race because they have a real world understanding of the car. Now when improvements that are made, it is based on solid data and experiece on the track.

I'm not so convinced about Aston Martin actually learning enough about their concept, they never recovered their early season form. To me they are still a midfield team.

McLaren seems to have found the correct Red Bull style base for their car, but still have some obvious issues to address as well. They are not good in slow "stop and go" corners, pretty evident by how both Merc and Ferrari dropped them in race pace at Abu Dhabi. So to me it's not yet an allrounder car like the Red Bull.

I just think that McLaren will find it difficult to have another big jump in performance that they would need to challenge RB in any way.

It seems to me that whoever can get a grip (excuse pun ) of the farcical Pirelli tyre compounds will win both titles. RB it seems has the fastest car up to a point but from what i gather it conserves it tyres much better than the rest so its race pace is much more consistent than the others. There was no silver "aero" bullet that many teams were chasing this year, Merc and SF had awful porpoising and took too long to get on top if it, regardless of the TD. RB on the other hand had mastered it from the outset. A massive advantage in the cars ability, handling and driver confidence.

F! actually does rely on spicing up the show with race strategy and tyre management (i hate the term "tyre deg") Wheel to wheel racing is encouraged yet penalized because they touch or its gets a bit dicey. Really!

The reason why the ferrari golden years was so successful was due to them understanding the tyres. Until they stop the bogus ideology of "cost saving/ caps" and allowing teams to test then F! will be in the doldrums forever.

Was the RB19 the best car ever, I'd say it was the best car of 2023 because the other screwed up

Any team trying to emulate / copy the RB19 for 2024 will be 2 years behind them. The RB20 will win both titles again for 2024, another WDC for verstappen but some of the top teams will win a few more races, thats unless Pirelli shift the goal posts again.

Build a car first and lets hope Charles and Carlos are as mistake free yes? Max is a good pressure driver overall.

Vasseur: Verstappen mistakes will come if he’s put under pressure in F1

Ferrari Formula 1 boss Fred Vasseur believes that having enjoyed a near-perfect 2023 season, Max Verstappen will be vulnerable to making mistakes when put under pressure by rivals.

The Abu Dhabi Sainz strategy (hopes on external factors) now applied to beating Max, lol.

We saw last year just how many mistakes Max made when under pressure (Pre TD39)...oh wait. We saw in 2021 just how many mistakes Max made under enormous pressure...oh wait.

You need a car +3 tenths to have a good shot at beating Max.

Well, in the last races of 2021, when the Mercedes was flying, he did some... "weird", if not filthy dirty things, out of desperation.

Hamilton looked untouchable for a while too. But not anymore.

It is easy to understand the tires when::
    a) the tires are not a moving target
    b) you have 300 days of testing per year. {{Yes three hundred}}

That Le Mans win was an outstanding achievement for Ferrari coming back after so many years.
Yet, I am unable to name the drivers ! I don't know anything about them.
Endurance winners used to be treated as heroes years ago.
Nowadays they are just anonymous; endurance has lost prestige compared to F1.
