Again, all of this conjecture needs to consider the quality of the conversion: the quality of the car, the quality of the parts, and the quality of the job (aka who did it).

I think Clyde's legal statement is actually an interesting case. Not that it ever happens on gated Maranellos, but if the OEM turret, solid linkage, or shift actuator failed on the 550 I would replace with another OEM part. And I would find it REALLY hard to imagine a legal concern if that car was in an accident some time after the part was replaced. With an OEM 575 conversion, it's no different. Transmission is the same, all Ferrari parts as-designed for that car, and factory-correct installation are as Ferrari designed and went through red-tape to deliver to Customers. It's not really a modification in the traditional sense of aftermarket, unregulated R&D. A non-original design, on the other hand, I don't know. This is another reason why I went OEM - no reason to risk reliability or safety.

What you’re talking about is OEM+ spec. Purists want as delivered; retrofitting incorrect options is a no go. For example, I have brembo 355mm front/345mm rear brakes and 360 carbon sport seats on my 575. I have been told “that’s sad” from a purist but hey it’s my car.

You just misheard them, they actually said “that’s rad.” :)

I kinda straddle the line…I prefer OEM just because, but for my FHP stuff I did spring for the MSW sway bar and steering ECU, because what else am I going to do?! Conversion HAD to be OEM, though. One thing I will NEVER do though is disparage someone else’s pride and joy. Epitome of snobbery and just crap manners.

Agree. In my younger years I would be more critical but at this point no harm/no foul…I welcome fresh perspectives and new ideas.

Personally I love OEM+ spec…fun to see what is possible and then experience the result. If you don’t like it, go back to OEM or rehash and try again.

Full honestly – I thought my 575 drove like garbage when I first bought it….BUT you could feel the platform had wondrous potential. Now 3 years later and a long list of OEM+ tweaks and the car drives, turns, stops, and sounds sublime!

As I wrap up the 575 (still deciding if I want to go full HGTC brakes and need minor tweaks on the wheels), next will be making an (as close as feasible) OEM+ 456m aka 456m with full OEM FHP.

you can save yourself some money by installing the Porterfield Racing pads.
a noticeable difference between the stock pads on my 575

Porterfield makes a good pad. I use them on my E31. My 575 currently has a full brembo GT kit with proper Ferrari script/labeling so honestly the only appeal of the HGTC is completing an HGTC conversion (minus the suspension, as in my opinion the FHP setup is superior. That said I am on the hunt for an OEM HGTC 19.5 rear bar to compare vs the MSW bar!)

Like many of the early 3 pedals, minimal options including red brake calipers (FHP?) and spare tire.

Sothebys online fee structure is quite a bit higher than BaT but they also handle some things that BaT doesn't. It will be interesting to see if Sothebys online platform can compete over the next couple years. So far they seem to be getting some good consignments.

Absolutely agree. For sub $1M vintage cars though, BaT has made significant progress. I don't know how many Dino's and Daytona's have sold on BaT the past couple years, but it's a lot.

1997 black on black with 21k miles and no options….at $260k….thats right boys and girls….not a typo…..unreal when you compare it to the other recent black one as shown here….which was RNM at $145.

The winner won’t feel QUITE as smart when this 4500 mile, serviced, similarly black/black example that just went live on BaT hammers for less than another $100K (or $50K more likely). This 4500 would have to do $400K+ to make sense of this sale methinks.

But then again, the S&P crushed it in November!

hopefully that rnm seller has not sold yet. He should relist on bat asap, while the empty handed bidder in todays duel is still in the hunt!

I decided to wait for a 575 specific set, though end of day I keep wavering between doing a manual conversion and selling the car for a 328… Will be speaking to my mechanic next week about the former possibility, if I’m going to do it the upcoming “rainy season” here (relative to the rest of the year, of course) would be the time.
