Wow, this was an Aussie ad! Didn't think we were that creative lol. And silver in that pic is the original colour I take it? Great to hear he still owns it, did he purchase it new or close to?
Of course we were that creative, remember "Louie the fly"? Yes, both cars were original silver. The other car is steel and was famously heavily crashed at Catalina circuit, which was lined with railway sleepers. An advertising agency called the club and asked for 2 silver Ferraris, which we just happened to have available. I think Geoff bought the vetro in 1986 or 87. He is quite a character.
Cheers man, appreciate the reply. Good timing in regards to having those Ferraris at the time. Louie the fly was great lol and yeah, we had some great ads back in the day. Pretty crappy these days but.
Trawling through the various pre-computer KM count Ferrari models (apart from Mondials) for sale, I have come to the conclusion that MOST Australian owned Ferrari cars have had their km/Mile speedo readings tampered with! All this nonsense about "Engine rebuilt at 30,000kms/40,000kms can NOT be correct!
My father bought and sold dozens of cars in the 50s/60s/70s all types, never owned a Ferrari, but came close a few times (250GTE,275 GTB/4, and Dino's, I suspect one reason he never bought -Speedo tampering.
Reckon that was really what put him off buying one? I am sure it was definitely happening back in the 60s and 70s also, but there would have been cars with documented service history showing correct mileage etc even back then that he could have purchased.
He was also more an English car guy, Rolls-Royce,Bentley ,Jaguar ,Aston Martin . Books mean nothing if between services the speedos are touched, which they were in the period.
That's fair enough. I wish my Dad was a car guy. He came to Australia in 1953 and collected some great stamps and coins, but would have suited me better if he collected Ferraris.
Those Europeans who came here after WW2 IMO have every right to be acknowledged in the Constitution for what they achieved both as workers and culture to this country (bad back or not
