Removed the driver side seat to work on the seat pot... There were 4 connectors under the seat, but only 3 were connected to the seat - the white, black and rear black connector... The circled connector with the 2 orange wires was not connected to anything - is this normal for a US spec Spider (1999)?

    Thanks!

The orange/white wires are usually the "seat installed" sensing wires. There should be a jumper plug on each seat. If either the driver's or passenger's plugs are disconnected, the roof will stop operating.

This is shown in the wiring diagrams. The driver and passenger wires are in series and go to pin 11 (plug A) of the Roof ECU.

A jumper! What in the world was Ferrari thinking!! Maybe this is why my roof isn't working! LOL...

Found the jumper on the pax side, but was missing on the driver side! Guess Ill have to make one up and see if that fixes my roof!

That's always a question. When it comes to ease of maintainability and certain aspects of reliability there appears to have been little to no thought.

Wow! That post is from 2011 - when I had my first 355 a decade ago!! LOL - I dont even remember having a roof issue early on.. but I do remember if worked flawlessly once I got the fluid level correct (which is probably after this post!!)

oops.. I didn't notice. So what happened to the jumper? Did you change the seats?

I really thought that the roof wouldn't work at all without the jumper.

The roof does not work (using the console switch) ... it does work (a bit but struggles due to low fluid/thick fluid) with the emergency switch... I thought it was a bad pot so removed the drivers seat - instead I now think its probably this missing jumper... I am out of town for the weekend so will make a jumper on SUnday and see if that helps get the console switch moving... I have also ordered the Mercedes Hyd fluid - so waiting for that to be delivered to get the system flushed and refilled as well...

Im assumign the emergency switch bypasses the seat/jumper under the seats...

Yes. During bypass operation, any input into the Roof ECU is ignored (other than the parking brake which goes to the bypass switches too)
