Never done it. Looked into it after I saw this thread with the ins agent at my dealership— doesn’t seem worth it to me. Not worth the difference for me for a car that gets driven 2-3k miles per year. Staying with one of the major companies, I’m sure will get me fair value if something happened.

    Special cars, special insurance.

I have worked in Auto insurance for 20 years… half with the leading mass market insurer and half with a high net worth carrier that only offers Agreed Value coverage. The better AV coverage includes market appreciation (150% of AV), diminution in value, OEM parts… very different policy contract.

More importantly, there’s no fighting with the company about what your car is worth. Mass market insurers know regular cars. Not exotics.

Recommendation - speak with a knowledgeable independent agent that has access to appropriate carriers (AIG, Chubb, Pure) for an exotic.

Chubb recently has altered its business model and often dropping clients over a single claim or claims where the client was not at fault(glass claims from rocks etc)
Cincinnati, Pure, Hagerty are probably the better companies for insuring exotics although large insurance companies such as GEICO and Progressive and Allstate will do so as well often at cheaper prices but expect a different (less coddling?)experience with them

Having worked at one of the “large” companies I can assure you it’s more than a lack of coddling, it’s a far less expansive policy contract (coverage). The thing with insurance is many of us think we will never file a claim, so ‘why care’ about the coverage. I can state with certainty that you’ll care if you do have a claim. My ‘20 812 SF Tailor Made is insured with AIG, and I’m glad I have this level of coverage, even though I’ve never filed a claim. I would never insure an exotic with a large, mass market carrier.

Totally agree- get the best company and policy you can for your exotic and not the cheapest price but if the top companies won’t insure your car then go to the next tier. If you as a driver are considered too high risk many states have “high risk pools” to get insurance since it’s mandatory to have car insurance in most states

Geez, is it even worth it to have insurance replace windshields anymore? I had my Vette's windshield replaced by Safelite, and I don't even think it was 500 bucks. Way cheaper for other cars without the HUD and rain sensing wipers etc. Wouldn't want to even involve the insurance company or give them any ammo.

Tried Grundy? I've had them for almost 8 years, currently pay a little under $1500 for $165k coverage between 2 cars, no mileage restrictions.

Dude I just can't. She wanted to do what she wanted to do. I like NEVER have any need for a new windshield and there she is trashing two in a years time. Craziness.

Yeah I thought about that. But in Sough Carolina it's covered and to have installation and whatnot it's easier to just get it done via insurance and doesn't penalize you.

Now the Ferrari.. if I need a windshield then THAT might just jack up my rates to the moon.. I hear you though...
