P4 is one of the most beautiful cars of all time. SP3 not in the same ballpark. JMO.

SP3 looks like its been designed by the " lets do another retro inspired car" committee. Many of its details just look awkward, needless and bad. Its form does not follow its function.

It's also going to age really badly while the LaF will get better and better with time ( just like the 288, F40, F50 and Enzo have).

I like the Daytona... except for the back... I was never a fan of the prototype that this came from....

The P4 is one of the prettiest cars ever designed. And it’s basically a one of a kind race car. So kind of hard to compare.

The SP3 is a fine “second best”. I mean, if you have the means I suggest picking one up. I know I would. And when I showed up to whatever event I’m sure everyone would gather around and give me a thumbs up.

It's "OK", but its "better" is still only notably better than most of the rest of what's being put out there today - praise, but faint, qualified praise.

What do you mean just like those cars? Did people think they were ugly when they first come out too? I get the 288 having a face only a ferrarista could love but even the F40?

And regarding the original topic, the SP3 looks too bulky in my opinion. By explaining my thoughts further using examples, the P4 looks like the 160cm girl that shocks everyone when she pulls out a slim cigarette, how could you smoke cigs? You are too pure and cute for that.

Meanwhile the SP3 looks addicted to weed. She could pull out a full size bong from her purse and nobody will bat an eye.

Interesting take. Tastes are subjective and I'm thinking it's a generational thing.

I see you're 17, so the 288 is an old car to you. I was a little younger than that when the 288 GTO was still a fairly new car, and I think it's one of the most beautiful Ferraris of all time. I think it looks great in photos and even better in person. In my top 5 best-looking Ferraris most likely, top 10 definitely.

Not saying you're wrong, you do you, but I've never heard anyone say it's got a face for radio before.

At the same time, maybe the generational thing is why the SP3 does nothing for me. Bloated, over-styled, knock-off of an essentially flawless design, IMO. Some retro stuff works, some of it tries too hard, and the SP3 is the latter to me. I honestly wouldn't want to be seen in public in that thing. Don't care if it makes people stop and stare, that's not at all a reason I'd want a particular Ferrari.

No i meant the opposite really, the 288 GTO is a spectacular looking car. I don't think anybody in my generation who actually are into cars will deny that, however i may be in an echo chamber because my mates' preferences in this field mostly line up with mine.

I got the last sentence as "People didn't visually favor past halo cars as much as they do them today" as in a person may have disliked the LaF when it first came out but got used to the design language and started liking it by exposure over time. This startled me because i couldn't believe people disliked their looks beforehand as they are such classics of their respective eras now. The first possibility that came to mind was the 288 because well i thought if they somehow did manage to dislike them, that car has very unusual front fascia so it could be likely.

I agree with not wanting to take a SP3 out on public settings, i don't even have a license yet but i wouldn't want all the attention either (I feel a bit called out by you mentioning that i'm 17 but no worries it's alright :D). It definitely will draw the "Let's form a circle around this man's car and take photos of it with him inside without permission because it looks expensive" crowd.

Glad to have you on the forum with your passion for Ferrari, even at 17. I was enamored by the P4 quite early myself, certainly long before 17 as well (I am now 72, and feel 17 when I see my favorite Ferraris). I bought and sold Ferraris at the first opportunity at age 32--graduating to a 288 at age 35 and a 250 GTO at age 37. Sadly, I could not hold onto them. Never lose that wonder and appreciation!!!!

I just looked at your profile and it mentioned your age, didn't mean to sound like I'm calling you out in a negative way at all; on the contrary I think it's awesome you're here and care about this stuff at 17. The car world needs more people like you.

    Carry on man!

Not planning to lose that drive anytime soon :).

Thank you. I don't experience it much here so i can advertise it but i do sometimes feel left out when my age and interests intersect IRL. These comments both mean a lot to me.

I agree. P4 is perfection - my favorite car, bar none. SP3 is a gorgeous modern interpretation, built in the context of modern road car regulations.

Remember the P4 was a race car, and a tiny race car even for its time. SP3 designers couldn't possibly replicate it's dimensions - they're playing different games.

The only element I don't love on the SP3 are the rear stakes. I don't hate them, but would have preferred something less fussy.

But anyway, I'd still take one if I had the means. Two of each please. :D

Hear, hear. It makes me really happy to see a knowledgeable, curious 17 year old on here, @BerkeS. Gives me hope and confidence that our car culture will be in good hands as us old guys age out. :)
