Are you saying that it has hidden tailpipes? Would be inline with the trend to make ICE cars look environmentally acceptable.
Yes, about 4 cms shorter between the front wheel and the windshield, and with the cab a tiny bit more in the center, it should roll like a real center. Can't wait to see if the front end is still improving on the competizione, which is just perfect ! If you have to buy a last Ferrari, this is the one to get.
You do know the real world 296's are around the same weight, often heavier than an 812 depending on spec? Its beyond ridiculous for 2 seater mid engine 3 litre v6 "sportscar" to be 1700kg..
No, but it is not possible to make it more artificial to give this sensation. Filters are everywhere, and especially in steering calibration... If you like cars more natural, it's the opposite...
I thought so yeah. You can really feel the momentum once you start pushing on, and its lazy in direction changes. The car feels numb and synthetic.
If the car is 4 shorter let’s hope we get some weight savings to go with it. Let’s see: 10K rpm 830-850hp 4 cm shorter 50 lbs lighter(probably overly optimistic especially if we get the trick suspension from the PS) Gorgeous bodywork (provided Manzoni has mild involvement in the design) A real spider option And I would love to see a 7:00 ‘Ring time Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Oh boy, now I am looking at this thread with more conviction of possibly moving on from my beloved 812SF...time to call the dealer and get some info on allocation projections.

Weight is just a figure. What matters is how it feels and what the stopwatch says. You are the first person I heard saying that the 296 is anything other than brilliant. They even call it "too much" and hyperactive. Perhaps you didn't push, or used a sedate mode? I found this review very interesting, regarding the different personalities, depending on the settings: https://www.roadandtrack.com/reviews/a46236010/ferrari-296-gtb-pcoty-2024-review/
Weight(rather lack thereof) every thing else being equal means better acceleration/deceleration/maneuverability and less wear and tear on car components like brakes and tires. In this case nothing is equal- one car is a rear midengine hybrid with a different aluminum space frame compared to a front midengine with a different space frame. I think the 296 is a phenomenal car as is the 812 but they are apples and oranges- eat whichever you prefer or both if you like what each offers. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Have you driven a 296? It feels very numb, heavy and synthetic. The car gives very little real feedback to the driver. It is very fast though. Yes I pushed it hard on Scottish Highland and European mountain roads. Plus got to do a few laps on track.. I have driven it back to back with a good few other cars that included a Pista, Speciale, 991.2 GT3 RS MR and a GT4 RS. It's fair to say that i'm comparing it to more focused models, but after seeing how little weight Ferrari have managed to get out of the SF90 XX compared to the SF90, i'm concerned Ferrari won't bother adding lightness and lowering the weight significantly for the 296 VS, which it really needs to do.
If you want 1200 kgs you have to go old or hyper expensive. I had a 360 CS, great car and I loved it. But when the Speciale came at about 150kg more, I didn’t look back. It was so much better in every regard. The SF90 came, another 200kg and I still loved it. I rarely drive the Speciale now (though I’ll never sell it). Weight is not the be-all and end-all. What you’re buying for that weight is important. In the end feel is everything. I love the way the SF90 feels, though I will say our standard spider is not quite as sharp a tool as the AF coupe we have but it brings other merits. As for the V12s, if your belief is that weight is everything, look elsewhere. Here again though, it’s what you’re buying into for the extra weight. I don’t think there are many enthusiasts who don’t understand why the V12 engine is worth every extra kilogram. Probably twice. Compare an 812 at circa 1700-1800 kg with a Speciale at 1400 kg and the driving experiences are very different but neither is ‘less’. On a track the Speciale should dominate but the 812 is so good on track why would you avoid it? Similarly, the 812 should be better on a longer road trip but the Speciale is just so good at everything you can throw at it. In the end, weight is an irrelevant factor in all but a very few use cases. And people who have those use cases don’t really need a road going Ferrari anyway, they need a track specific one. Weight without control makes for bad feel, then it’s relevant. But if there is a purpose to the weight then a car can offer something very worthwhile. If I want low weight, I have cars in our garage that already do that as well as I want. I want to be engaged and interested in something different to the past in future cars.
Since when do new Ferrari models have less weight then the previous models....!? Wishfull thinking. All this talk about weight being "the biggest issue" with cars, should get people more interested in track only cars. Even even then, each and every track only model is heaver then the previous one, but still faster and yes that includes F1 cars. It's perfectly fine to lust after a car of a feew generations ago. By all means get one of those. Times have changed, for good or bad. Consumers want more comfort and regulations dictate more safety. New cars will be heavier, not lighter.
Weight is the number 1 enemy for every performance road, track or race car.. Ferrari could drop the weight across all their models by round 200kg with ease if they really wanted too ( half million dollar cars that don't even have carbon tubs in 2023 is simply taking the piss out their customers!!) . But Ferrari are more about profit than giving their customers cutting edge engineering. The 992 GT3 is lighter than the 991 GT3, so even without big changes in materials or price point, it is possible to add lightness.
It seems Ferrari has not much interest for light weight cars currently as they are preparing the tranformation for even heavier electric cars.
