    Hey fellas,
I registered my car into the show. Don't know if it was accepted or not, but how is the judging? Similar/identical to Cavallino? I was in the Cavallino show this year, and was blessed to get a Patino - only losing 2.5 points. I corrected 1.5 points, but then i installed my Ferrari 19" Challenge wheels. Assume I will lose a point for the wheels (and the tubi I lost a point for at Cavallino but won't put the factory exhaust no matter what). Just curious if any of you have had experience at the show and being judged. Any insight or info is supremely appreciated. Happy New Year to all.

Despite claims to the contrary most local events do not use the same standards as are used at Cavallino or FCA National events. Even if it is an FCA event there is no requirement to do so.

IF national judging standards were used it would be 2 points for 4 incorrect wheels and 2 points for 4 incorrect sized tires. If it is perfect in every other way It cannot get Platino if the 97 point system is even used.

As a correction to this, if IAC/PFA scoring is used there is a 3 point maximum deduction for wheels/tires. That modification should lose you 3 points.

How does one register a car? Do you have to be an FCA member?

Brian, one more silly question. At Cavallino, they put a small, round white sticker with the number 50 on it. I left it on, as I was 50 when the car was judged and it looks cool on the car. I assume no deduct for that? Otherwise, I'm good to go. Thanks all for all the input.

Its up to the judges. They have some discretionary power.
Several years ago we showed the TR at a national meet. Since a club event just after 9/11 we have had an American flag sticker in the windshield. I won't take it off. I explained its presence and the judges ignored it.

    Try that.

Expanding on the judging guidelines, specifically for competition cars, what are the current rules for dated parts on race cars? I read the Scott George, Paul Russell, Dick Fritz’s guidelines on these cars and understand all of the finish intentions but what of parts that expire usefulness at some point, particularly when a car is still occasionally used on track or in competition? I’ve read about flexibility with stuff like fire suppression are points deducted for having new date race seats and harnesses for example? I’d like to be as correct as possible for judging while retain the ability to track these cars as intended.

You dont think GTO owners should be allowed to show their cars? You dont think so much gets spent on them to make them perfect so they look petty under a cover in the garage do you?

Race cars are judged all the time. Half the upper lawn at Cavallino is typically race cars. At Pebble usually there are 2 Ferrari classes, Race cars and road cars. One year at Pebble they had a specific class for D Type Jags.

Those three are not difficult to contact and I would advise doing so but. For cars still used in competition changes are allowed to keep up with rule changes and lifed out items. Going back to the beginning of the race category it is stated the car must be presented to match a point in time of the cars history with supporting documentation. That includes the livery, reflecting whatever the configuration was in place at that time for sanctioning body rules, evolution of the car during its racing life etc. Its well understood race cars go through constant development and updating their entire competition life. One aspect I am not 100% sure of is the application of that to vintage events. For example a GTO. I suspect on the field, 60's period safety items may be better received than 2024 items and I would advise asking Scott or Paul.

Scott is at the Revs Institute in Naples FL and Paul has a restoration company in Essex MA.

One more thing. Judges have some discretion. Whatever decisions are made in that area explain and defend them proactively to the judges.

Not at all. Race cars are cooler than street cars. But I would think originality would be problematic.

You have no idea. Think finding a pair of 275 seats is tough they looking for custom seats made for a comp car where there’s maybe between 1-5 examples even known. :D

Different rules for starters. How are you defining original? As long as the chassis and engine numbers are proper we dont care if every other single part has been changed as long as they are correct. True of street and race cars.
