Nah-I just find it amusing, in my father's day it WAS all about saving lives, now for many it's a social pickup and a $10 steak ,salad bar and the desert tray and a Chardy
My father and mother, the motel came about with an idea when my father's mother was in The States, its claim is that its the 1st motel in Australia, and she bought the idea back from The States after a holiday. at the time my parents had only just married in their early 20s and my father had NO interest in the family business as a career -Thus the Motel, I think they were in Noosa for only a year or so, got homesick and came back to Melbourne. The pamphlet is my parents and my fathers at the time racing MG-Holden which Harry Firth built up, my father raced it at the 1954 Southport AGP coming 8th or 9th . The car is now owned by Ian Tate. Further to women in lifesaving: SURF life saving history: https://www.lifesaving.com.au/about/our-history The Royal Life Saving Society (flat water rescues) were much more progressive and had women's teams from early days; note in this article the Women's teams are referred to NOT as "Surf Lifesavers" but "Life Savers", even though the competition was held on the beach. Obviously the detent mentioned in this article didn't stick... still 2 very distinct entities. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/21532570
