You can look at it a different way. It is a LaF Aperta minus the batteries, with a new and beautiful body and 350k cheaper (the LaF Aperta was 2.2m if I remember correctly)

No wonder the car is more than twice its list price now

I'd definitely take an MC20 over a 296. Looks nicer to me and no hybrid faffery. Interior is more spacious for me (I struggled with the 296 a bit at 6'3) and I find it a more luxurious interior plus doors and it looks nicer! Not a fan of the 296 look at all.

I pretty much agree! It's the car ideally I'd dream of owning because it ticks all the boxes. It's the one that best represents what a Ferrari should be. The Icona series are real successes, and even if the idea started from a one-off, I have to salute this decision by Marchionne, although I have never been a fan of his positioning and his ideas in a more general way.

Yes certainly a variation of this type, I was talking in terms of concept (coupe, Aperta, track)
If the competizione version is equivalent in another category to the GT3 version at Porsche, I would even suggest that they make an RS version of the 167 !
If the strategy was customer-friendly, it would be the latter Competizione RS version that should be reserved, and the Competizione version sold to anyone who wants one...

Any reason they won’t do a Competizione aperta? Or does track mean either config (so four total F167s)?

    6 versions would be ideal:

It all boils down to compromise. Weight (luxury) v. Performance. I do not subscribe at all to the “Jack of all trades, master of none philosophy,” and have preferred to have dedicated cars, guns, bows etc each specific for its task(s). (And the added benefit of more toys…..)

So, why not offer both? Leaving a lot of $$$$ on the table by not doing so.

If one looks at the Porsche model, then the ideal number of F167 variants would be 6 based upon what I believe is the ideal method of outfitting (selling) a chassis:

Simplistically, (like Porsche) make a base model, a GTS lighter & sportier model and the skeletonized GT3 track model. The first two are road cars, the latter a dedicated track just like 911s. And make a coupe & open of each.

Sadly, too late to do that to the 12s (logistically can’t do that now given the direction taken by the C suite).

Imagine all the money they left on the table by not having already done so with the F12/812s……..can’t get a spider base without it’s corresponding coupe base; no GTS without a base, etc etc etc.

If it had a non-GPF exhaust it would be perfect…I was recently chatting to someone in the Ferrari world with a lot more experience than me and was telling him I still have a slight preference for the LaF. He disagreed and told me the SP3 as an beautiful, open-top, V12, no turbo, no batterie hypercar will be the modern Ferrari that will surpass $10 million… Ferrari will not make another car like this and its popularity will only increase…Very big statement and not one I necessarily agree with but interesting to hear it from a major player who is also hanging out with some of the biggest collectors globally.

To a young(ish) fan like myself who hasn’t had the privilege of owning any Ferraris yet, this is saddening. Knowing that Ferrari will no longer create things along the lines of the SP3 (I know that there are more Iconas coming done the line). However, to many of us that have had the boyhood dream of acquiring Ferraris it seems like the Golden Age has passed and the future is more dull and muted. I have nothing against EVs but I’ve never coveted them either.

I hope to get into the brand soon (via the used market) and at least experience some of the V12 goodness before they all increase so much in value and become unattainable.

Here is hoping they make lots and lots of F167s.

I don't know one way or another about $10mn. But it's certainly the most desirable modern car in my eyes for the reasons you mention. So makes sense to me.

If I only had the means...

Not to worry there are great V12 Ferraris like the 512 that remain underrated and are not rising in value. Some of these cars offer far more emotion than the modern stuff

I just love the details of the SP3. My favourite has to be the intakes in the door.

If I could change one thing on it? Has to be the steering wheel, I'm not a fan of the kinetic touch switches or whatever they're called. I like mechanical touch.

Has this morphed into the SP3 thread?
Of course if Ferrari listened to its customers it would have made a regular production La Ferrari carbon tub (no new engineering needed)rear midengine V12 with 830 hp without hybrid and I’ll take a plain Jane version of the body (no bulbous flanks for me thank you- heck it could even be reminiscent of the TR)and sell a gazillion of them over a 7-10 year run for just under $1M(Ok I’ll take an Aperta version so make it $1.1M for me)
Happy New Year to all ! May the roads you travel be winding and lightly trafficked with picturesque views and no speed limits!

Firstly, an excellent 2024 to FChat friends.

Cool scenes of the F167 at 6:05, 10:31, 11:08. And at 11:31 the mule with panels from Roma.

True. But Mclaren and Maserati have carbon tub's within similar or lower price points. Ferrari really have no excuses.
