After some spirited driving, where everything worked beautifully, I noticed an odd noise as I slowed down. At low speeds it became very obvious. It is a rhythmic clunking noise that sounds like the ABS activating. It sounds like it is coming from the brake pedal. No lights, no faults, brakes and ABS are working fine and car is driving fine. But there is definitely something wrong. I drove home, but the noise continues constantly even when the car is on and parked but not running. It is a very steady clunk every 2 seconds like some actuator is stuck in some sort of cycle.

    Any thoughts?

Does the clunking stop when you depress the brake pedal and resume when you let off?

I would need to go test drive it to be certain, but yes, i believe it stops when the brakes are depressed and resumes when you let off.

I was incorrect. The noise happens anytime the key is in the on position... before the car even is running and it persists even when braking until the car is turned off. Super weird. Please help!!! Maybe an ecu reset would help? Pull a certain fuse?

Not sure, Barry. I don't know anything about the hydromechanical side of these systems.

Teves or Bosch? At some point in production it changed to Bosch. Research will tell you it was pretty early, but my 97 still has Teves. Just a place to start troubleshooting. Either way I think parts for the ABS systems are going to be painfully scarce if it comes to that.

It should pump up at key on, you will hear that. But then stop after pressure is established. If it keeps going there is an issue. Accumulator failure?

Does the Bosch system do this? There's a pump, but there doesn't seem to be any pressure sensors or accumulator like the Teves system.

Update... after further bleeding with a pressure system the issue was resolved! I guess there was still some air trapped in the ABS after the BBK install.
