My Binnacle above the instrument cluster is bubbling. It is leather wrapped.

I am thinking of replacing it with a carbon fiber one.

Cluster Hood Top MATTE - Exotic Car Gear, Inc.

    • What are your thoughts on this?
    • Matte or Shiny?
    • What do you think of the matte not matching all the shiny carbon already in the car?
    • Will Matte reduce the glare that much?
    • How hard do you think the removal and install be?
I don't want to do leather as I don't want to deal with this again.

I prefer gloss carbon but reflection might be bad on windshield.

The install is less than 2 min tho. It's 2 screws and it pops straight up

Ugg, the leather on the two large pieces under it on each side (with the deviated stitching) is retracting. So that needs to be addressed. Are those two pieces on each side, under the binnacle easy to pull out once the binnacle is removed or is this a complicated job now.

My binnacle is carbon fiber with the original leather in place. It looks elegant, tasteful & stock with my factory carbon racing interior. Personally doing it the other way would look modified and somewhat overdone. Modified unfortunately can be a dirty word. Just my opinion.

What about removing the binnacle and recovering it in leather? I use a leather guy who specializes in leather recover work and he did my 430 dash that I had removed and brought to his shop. They can even match the stitching. Would look OEM and be a lot cheaper. Any good leather shop that does automotive work should be able to do that. They use better adhesives than Ferrari did so bubbling would be a distant memory. Since it is so easily removeable that would be my choice. If you prefer, I would do the CF in Matte because of the glare. JMHO

I'm leaning towards the leather. Afraid of it not matching (aged vs, newer leather, dye lots, etc.)

I also discovered the leather under the Binnacle is retracting on one side..

Labor time from what I gathered:

    Binnacle - a few minutes
Piece under binnacle touching Driver Door - 1 hour
Piece under Binnacle that is towards the center of the car (that is not damaged but may not match once other pieces are replaced) - 5 hours (ughhh)

Does anyone have before and after pics?

Original product link no longer works but easy to find just use vendor’s menu on site.

Haven't done it yet. Don't know how to even attempt to do it myself to take to an upholstery person and have not found a upholstery place yet. Please post your progress if you make progress
