Omg - the money and time I have spent changing pads on cars. I will just keep, putting pads on until I like the feel.

to be honest, I don’t care about pad or rotor life, just feel and performance. If those check boxes are met, I don’t care if I have to change pads nd rotors every 10kor 30k miles. Those are cheap parts that make my experience better. on the q7 I just did rear rotor after 70k miles. Three sets of yellow pads. The fronts go about 2 sets of pads for a set of rotors. Just a few hundo and a couple of hours wrenching. Well worth it to haul down the 500hp beast from triple digits! lol

On race cars we used a pad that porterfield cut for us that worked great. A Reybestos compound. It took years to settle on it, it was awesome. Squealed like a stuck pig but just worked always regardless of temp. Same feel first lap and 2 hours in! You would have fit right in! I have always been of the belief that a good car with amazing brakes is more rewarding than a faster car with crap brakes. I make more passes into corners than coming out of them! lol

My SA is plain-Jane…I think the only options are the stereo and the shields. No carbon ceramic brakes. I just had the brakes replaced by Ferrari of Atlanta and new tires installed.
The rear anti roll bar and the steering ECU will be improvements. Maybe I should consider ceramic brakes? One thing at a time. Including making it a stick shift.
    Nope on the ceramic brakes.

I have a lot to learn here. I think I will have to read this thread a few times before it registers. Or wait a few months to read it again. Slow going now…

if you are remotely considering doing an OEM HGTC carbon retrofit, we should chat. OEM calipers are NLA but there are ways around that. HGTC brakes are a tentative “maybe” for me as I really don’t want to give up my wheels.

PS as “plain Jane” as supermodel, ha!

Love the photos…no, I was never expecting a PPI…but you da man for even thinking about it. The auction thread for the black/black is strangely quiet…but I never cease to be entertained by the unexpected on their site. Again, thanks.

Yea its tragic. MOVit's design was far superior (IMHO) to Brembos 1st Generation Carbon they used on the 360CS/575/early 430/early 599.

The pads are about 1/3 larger than CCM pads. Like you said, a shame they quit. The rotor transforms were far superior to the CCMs, too. Plus, no brake dust, no squeal, and a bottomless pit of braking.

I actually find the carbon seats more supportive and comfortable - but not as plush. I am taller so with the daytonas I was looking through the upper diffuser edge of the windshield....not comfortable. I also must be thinner than the usual buyer as I felt was sitting on a couch without any support on the Daytonas (a comfy couch though!). In short, the carbon seats are much better for my tall frame and I would favor a car with them over a car with FHP.

I always appreciate Joes insights and the EAG car finishes tomorrow so I want to bump this to the top and then it deserves a proper “cliff note” which I’ll make sure to do for us and anyone else after the listing ends.

I really do wish one of us here had the time and ability to go drive that car.

I don’t think I have in my notes what BaT’s @remingtonsr71 fchat handle is? If he hasn’t, having his commentary over here would be welcome.

We have talked about this 1997 550 with 21k miles that sold on BaT on 12/5/23 at a then very surprising $260k.

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-ferrari-550-maranello-27/

New Fchatter Best Stuff had posted some minor troubleshooting he was doing on the car and his buyer and seller seem very pleased.
    +) SOLD 1997 550 at $260,000 out of Stratford CT on 12/5/23
    +) ZFFZR49A3V0108928
    +) 21k miles
+) Black over Nero with OEM wheels
    +) timing belts May 2021
+) True sleeper, no options not even shields

For a driver mile car that result was strong.

What is even more interesting than that high result is now this much lower result today (this car was listed 2x on BaT by same broker representing same seller).

Today, very similar car.....1998 550 with 13k miles that was RNM at $156k

    +) RNM 1998 550 at $156,000 out of Monterey CA on 1/17/24
    +) ZFFZR49A2W0110137+)
    +) 13k miles
+) Black over Nero with OEM wheels
+) 2021 timing belt, water pump, etc
+) Alpine stereo with OEM radio included
+) leather airbag noted and there was some commenter note on door function?

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1998-ferrari-550-maranello-9-2/

BaT handle Angustami noted he didn't get the difference in todays price and I don't disagree. The market is clearly all over the place.

Also a few Euro's on BaT making things even more interesting.

    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1997-ferrari-550-maranello-30/
+) SOLD 1997 550 at $131k out of the Netherlands on German registration 1/15/24
    +) ZFFZR49B000108807
    +) 30k miles
    +) RC over nero

There is also a black Euro underway being sold out of Ohio by Switchcars (I personally have enjoyed all his internet content as a cannonballer).
    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1998-ferrari-550-maranello-15/
+) 1998 Euro on an Ohio title
    +) 28k miles

Euro cars are hard to use to get a feel of the market as being 49 state legal is a bad deal for resale when CA is a huge market.

I’ve said this before and I’ll stick with it - this market is completely nonsensical. I think the best thing we can learn from it is to enjoy our cars and not attempt to interpret anything as an indicator or future values.

That said and FWIW, I think that most recent black 550 result is where the market should be all things considered. I saw one comment that was something to the effect of “this will go for $300” and I had to chuckle. Not a chance…but such is the nature of the effects of very public results like those on BAT. One outlier and all of a sudden everyone is sitting on a gold mine.
