Side flaps won’t go up to complete down cycle and top won’t go up seems to block on up cycle. Any ideas?

Hi, Alex. It's hard to tell from the video what's going on.

When trying to put the top down, does the engine cover go all the way down? Is it just the flaps that won't come up?

Here is some of the logic i.e. the microswitch positions and commands necessary to complete the down cycle.

The codes in blue correspond to the microswitches

One or more of these switches may be holding up the sequence. e.g. :
Limit switch softop (canvas) open/closed (EVZ & EVA)
Limit switch (engine) cover closed/open (EDZ & EDA).
Limit switch (small) flap Open (down) and flap closed (up) (EFA & EVZ)
.... but perhaps not limited to these 6 switches. Any one of dozens of things might cause issues. To be honest, I'm not sure why the roof has issues in both directions.

    The full sequence is here:

This (very long) message thread may give you a better understanding of the location of some of the switches

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/149421702/

You can use an expensive scanner to look at microswitch positions or...
Poke around with a stick, trying to force microswitches into their correct positions or...
Do resistance checks on microswitches (at the Roof ECU connectors)

I suppose your next course of action is dependent on your electrical skills.

Thank you so much for the reply. Yes the engine cover closes completely but the flaps won’t go up and the sequence is then incomplete. So I try closing, the cover opens as it should but the top pops up slightly and looks like it’s forcing down when I’m trying to close and will not rise at all, when I release the switch it’s pops up all at once then settles down but never rises out of the tub.

I'm trying to go through a process of elimination, but not having much luck. If the canvas fully down microswitch was malfunctioning, the engine lid wouldn't close, so it can't be that switch. If the lid fully down switch was malfunctioning (showing not down), that would stop the flaps coming up, but I don't see why it would stop the roof closing.

(EDIT) During the opening sequence (Step 10), the flap motor drives the flaps down for 2 seconds to ensure the flaps are fully down. If the flap fully down (or "open" as the manual calls it) microswitch was not working, I'm not sure how much of the rest of the down sequence it would inhibit. During roof closing, the flaps are driven down. If the flaps are not showing fully down, I can imagine that this might inhibit some part of the roof closing sequence.

I would try to test the flap fully down microswitch (EFA)... See the link to the other message thread.

The Micro-switches are not only a position switch but a limit switch. The switches are just that, when closed they allow a voltage signal to the Capote ECM. You can check continuity by operating the micro switch manually and looking for an low ohm number between the pin number and chassis ground with a DMM. Also you can purchase a Foxwell NT510 with the Ferrari software for around 150 bucks. This Scan Tool is about the only one that can read the Capote Module. You can look at live data fron the micro-switches to see if they are reporting properly. Be careful and don't force anything. The flaps are fragile. Check to make sure you have the right amount of fluid in the drive motor. The main harness has a bend in it on the drivers side when operating the top and wires do break, so check the main harness. One last thing, inspect all your seven hydraulic rams for leakage.

Not to derail this thread but the Foxwell NT510 has ferrari software?

The more I think about what lead to this issue, the more it points to the flap on driver side being physically jammed on its way down during the top closing sequence. I had the car out and parked in front of my son’s home for around 4 hours with the top down on a cold day. When I was leaving I decided to close the roof and as the flaps went down that is where the sequence got interrupted and where everything stopped working. I did hear a slight squeal on the driver side flap lately and did not have time to lubricate. Maybe the flaps never reached the full down position, not activating the microswitch and hence sequence is interrupted. Is there any way to manually make the flaps move to see if they are jammed and also so I can lubricate them?

Great, but is there any manual way to move the flaps up and down ?

No, But I think there's a way to manualy operate the complete top but it's appears to be somewhat complicated. It may be online or in your manual. There's a couple members in here who know a lot about these tops. Maybe they'll come in soon

510 was discontinued. I believe there is a newer version (NT530?)

How close do you think the flap is to fully down? If it doesn't present a physical barrier to the roof going up, there might be a way of triggering the flap fully down switch.

    e.g. shorting out connector "5Q"

Maybe @DrivnXcitment Bryan can provide some guidance (from the other roof thread). I'm not sure how much of the cabin interior he had to disassemble to get to these plugs. I'm not sure if that photo was taken with the canvas up or down. Also, he mentioned some plastic sleeves on the plugs which will have to be removed.

Lorenzo's photo in post #10 should be able to give you some idea of a flap fully down.
