Anyone know more details on this car? Looks like it has some rare options - including 365GTC style hood vents along with the side vents. A nice addition IMHO. Apparently, this car previously sold for big money through Canepa. Was it worth the money at the time - and how well might it do in Naples? Not sure if it was a reasonable comp, but looks like another 330GTC just sold at Kissimmee for less than half that amount...

Yes. I watched that auction close just a few hours ago. $480K was surprisingly low to me, but some say that's the market for the 330GTC now. It was a color change car...

As I previously mentioned, Mecum also closed one out yesterday (#10761) at $451K, which at face value did not seem to be quite as nice - and perhaps in need of some recommissioning due to it being in a collection for more than 20 years. Don't know more about the car.

How is a Dino commanding more than this GTC on BAT
Have GTC dropped that much in price?

9245 was born red and is red today, not a color change car.
Same for 10761, born red, red today.

Both cars need a total ground up restoration which will easily require 400 to 500 K $. Total cost then will be at least 900 K $ (purchase price 450 plus resto 500) and the car/and the money will be gone for at least 2 to 3 years. That alone explains the low prices.

Thank Marcel. Just a few points to clarify for my education. Can either of these be driven and enjoyed without a full restoration? My interest in one of these would be to drive it just like my 550 or any other vehicle in my small collection.

For 9245, wasn't the original color of Rosso Cina more of a burgundy color, rather than the red it exhibits today ,which is more like the "traditional" Rosso Corsa"? Or was Rosso Cina more of a reddish tone in that year?

My belief is that 10761 may have sat for more than 20 years, thus would need at least recommissioning, if not major mechanical rebuilds. And I don't trust what Mecum offers - plus it's difficult to perform a proper PPI at an auction. They don't seem to properly vet what they sell.

9245 on the other hand appears to be fully functional and ready to drive from the presentation on BaT. Short of rust or other issues that would need to be addressed that could result in degradation of the vehicle, it seems to ready to go. And a BaT auction gives one a short period where an inspection and PPI is possible. What am I missing on this one?

Rosso Cina is more or less China Red and the regular "Ferrari" red we all know today. Not burgundy.
10761 came from the Letterman collection which was acquired by Mecum.

If you review the paperwork, you'll see the transaxle has been rebuilt several times. Question is, why? Granted, they can be tricky to get right. But, this is most notable anomaly, among a few other minor ones...

Ahhh...another Letterman car. Neglected like 11179 - the 330GTS sold at Mecum Monterey.

What are your thoughts on 9989?

JohnnyRay…….I have seen 9989 once in a parking garage in Marco Island. The owner was nice enough to show me the car and the detailed notebook of the restoration.
I only saw the car from outside and not the engine. I asked the owner about this car having the side louver vents as well the hood vents at the same time. I had never seen this combo before. He said that Canepa assured him it’s a stock setup originally. I didn’t say anything one way or another. I just had never seen once with this set up before. Oh….the a picture of the woman driving it is his wife…lol. I met them at a Naples Ferrari Club event a while ago. Before we moved to NC.

I glanced at the 330 GTC as-built Guidelines to see if I can find this set up. I know the guy that created the 330 guidelines manual. He lives here in St Pete. I will ask him if he knows anything about 9899,

If I am good to go to Cars on 5th with my stroke recovery maybe I will go to the auction. I was the original founder of Cars on 5th. Ran it for over 10 years. But where I am now I never know what the next day brings me…..

The owner also owned beautiful Aston Martin DB4 at the same time. Wonder if still owns the Aston?

Thank you Mr. Massini; I had no idea this GTC has been for sale that long!

In 1990 or so, a collector named Stuart Buck out of Santa Rosa had me drive his dark red 330 GTS Spyder down from Santa Rosa to the show at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. I was 18 maybe 19 at the time, and I had the car parked next to a light metallic blue Daytona and David Love's red '58 250 TR. Mr. Buck had purchased the 330 GTS out of Ferrari of Los Gatos as I recall in the $450k range.

And I'm glad the car was undamaged when I drove it back to Santa Rosa that evening!

Thanks Marcel. Folks need to do their homework before buying a vintage Ferrari. The very best deal on a GTC, for example, would be to pay up for a fully restored car. This will be the least expensive vintage Ferrari you will ever own.

I sold my GTC for $200,000 in 2008 because I knew it had a lot of needs, and I didn't have the resources or the patience to do what needed to be done. (I didn't dare even look at the rocker panels, for example.) Since I sold, the subsequent owners have put at least $400,000 into the car, probably more. What to guess what the car is worth today? Think $650,000.

I asked Clete Gardenhour, the original author of the 330 GTC Guidelines and As-built about this car. He said he did not spend a lot of time with the Speciales in his guidebook. So he did not say one way or the other about the hood and side vents.

Clete won a major award at the Festival of Speed in St Peterburg on Sunday. I had a nice talk with him about what he has done for the Ferrari 330 GTC documentation.

but only then if the restoration has been done right and all documented. and even then you are not sure how and if all has been done.
but this is not just valid for a GTC, for all older cars
