Hello California T Owners. Question for you. I recently purchased a 2016 CA T with 9600 miles. I've noticed when the car is in neutral there is an intermittent clanking rattling coming from under the car. (please see vid) Almost sounds like it has a loose exhaust hanger or something. When the car is in gear no noise. I have it at the local Ferrari Dealership and they are telling me this noise is normal. They say they have another Cali T and it does the same thing when the car is not in gear. Seems a little sus to me!

    full operating temp
only when car is in neutral parking brake on
Does not happen when in gear

As owners...have you guys noticed this with your cars? Thanks!

I have not experienced that noise with my 2016 since I can't recall ever putting it in neutral with the parking brake on. I'll try that setting and let you know.

Excellent! Thank you! I am so curious to know it this rattling is "normal" and others experience the same thing. Definitely doesn't seem normal to me.

2017 Cali T/HS I have not noticed this noise. Sounds like exhaust might be hitting something?

That's what I thought initially and thought it would be an easy diagnosis at the dealer. But they are telling me it's "normal" when the car is in neutral and that they have another Cali T on the lot that sounds the same. I definitely don't think its normal as you can also feel the knocking in the cabin.

Another "no" vote from here. Either an engine mount issue or exhaust is loose somewhere, those would be the first things I'd check.

Putting my 2016 Cali T into neutral, with or without parking brake engaged, does not make any clanking rattling similar to your recording. I confess having to look up what the user manual says to put the car in neutral, I don't recall ever putting it in neutral before.

Thank you! Yes I definitely don't think it's normal and the dealer told me they are opening some sort of technical case with Ferrari and sent them the videos. We will see what they say.

Question for you. So if you leave the car running to say get out and move a trash can or get the mail do you leave it in gear and put the parking brake on? I don't have the confidence to do that. I pull back on both paddles and put it in neutral and then put the parking brake on.

In reply to your question, before I get out of the car I turn off the ignition. Prior to turning off the ignition I engage the parking brake if on a slope, the car also engages it if I forget. If on the level, I don't ever use the parking brake. I've never tried leaving the car running with parking brake engaged while I get out of the car.

Ah Gotcha. Yes I probably treat the car more like a manual than most. I'll even put it into neutral sometimes if I'm at a long light.

When looking up in the user manual how to put the car into neutral, I also saw the manual advised to put car into neutral for long periods of stationary engine running, your practice matches the manual recommendation.
