How does that compute in anyone's mind/business? Esp since we are talking about tickets..not even asking for free car or allocation etc.

We'll get Leslie to convince Marcel to go to Elkheart Lake later this year and she can introduce the 2 of you. Marcel is actually very charming and funny which if you are familiar with the Swiss is quite unusual.

Ferrari automobiles have always been expensive so yes the target demographic has always been more successful individuals. Nothing changed there.
Ferrari design has always been intended to evoke emotions so some do make a fuss. Expectedly so.

Food at what? Ferrari involvement in motorsports events over and above actually racing really didn't start until the 90's as I recall. They borrowed one of our cars once. No food I remember. But I did get a nice discount on the red book that resulted.

My only experience is 2004 vs 2023.

I thought it was overall a comparable experience and quality of cars equivalent, just twice as many people and busy last year. Also much more manufacturer involvement (commercial) and side shows. Someone might have the exact numbers, but maybe tickets 3-4x more expensive in those 19 years.

Exactly why the principals involved are dumbfounded and why one very important, multi generational Ferrari collector will never involve himself with official factory anything ever again. The intermediary is old enough he's close to retirement and told me in very direct terms he's only in it for his clients anymore.

If you're referring to Marcel pushing me away, I'm not sure you understand my experience level with these events. I attended Pebble for about 15 years straight, and not only attended, but judged, at Cavallino for about the same years. I was contemplating going to Cavallino next year, after seeing what happens this year, but I think I've heard enough.

I think if you start digging and talking to more people about this you’ll find Marcel is just one of the many recent bad experiences/interactions. Most just talk about it privately and not on an open forum for fear of being “blacklisted”. ;)

Frankly, we don't know what the incentives are in this deal. It may be Cavallino was sold on an earnout and the buyer is trying to drive the price down. Or, it could just be the Italian way of doing business. Bottom line is what was will be no more. That said, one door closing can lead to another door opening.

Quite honestly this change at Cavallino (John Barnes days vs post-sale) in many ways is same as change at Ferrari S.p.A. (Luca di Montezemolo days vs post-IPO). I digress.....

I really think it's the Italian way. They have this idea they are the hot ****. Look at how Maserati and alfa are run.

Hey we have beautiful cars. Now pay us so we can treat you like **** while our products age 2x as fast as the rest and we don't bother to update them.

    Anything worth paying the $480?

Pretty sure I’ve seen all of those before. I have zero interest in anything modern.

    Dear Steve,

Marcel is one of the nicest, no nonsense, Ferrari knowledgeable guys you will ever meet. He does have a non-Swiss sense of humor as well. To help you recognize him the first time you do meet face to face, he is the guy on the right in this photo of a coupe of Ferrari dinosaurs.

    Best regards,

    Robert

So I just saw a list of the Major Awards for this years Cavallino.
    In order :

Best of show GT Car Good
Best of show Comp car Good
Best of show Classiche Certified OK
Elegance award Finest coach built Good
Preservation award Best origional preserved Good
Research award Required most research to restore Good
Restoration award Exellence in restoration Good
Finest racing award Finest track/racing Ferrari ???????? Isnt that what best of show competition is all about? If you knew the criteria used for these awards you would know that.
    Finest 275 award Good
Testarossa award Poorly named but OK
Early Ferrari award Finest example OK I guess kind of even though there is no finest late Ferrari award
Four liter award for 330s Good
Dino 6 cylinder Finest Dino Good
Eight cylinder award 430,458,488 What about 308,328,348,355 and 360? What are they? Chopped liver?
Return of the front mounted V12 550/575 ?????? What about 456, 612 etc.
    Turbo charged era
    288 finest
    F40 finest
Origin of 8 cylinder road cars GTB/S Turbo They had a great GTB Turbo last year and I am sure there has been at least one before.Seems odd to have an award for such a rare occurrence.

Thats it folks. No Boxer award. No Super car award. Lots of popular and very important cars left out.

Does the author of this list even know Ferrari well enough to know how many he left out?
They even went out of their way to invite a specific 308 to attend from the West Coast and seem to have no award for him.

It will be interesting to see if the market shifts because of this new structure. As you know in the past, everybody wanted their car judged at Cavallino because if it scored high the value/provenance of that car was improved. It really meant something to win there and we'd see all the top collectors/restorers bring cars. If the award standards fall why would collectors bother?

Are any of the big restorers bringing anything this year?

Supposed to be 2. Judges for all the supercars will be a problem though. The only one on the field with any knowledge of them to speak of is judging something else. I tried very hard to get them to allow me to cross train some people several years ago and was refused. One long time supercar judge no longer judges, one was fired by Canossa in the purge and I quit because of it. My other half who was getting up to speed on them requested them but was put somewhere else. I have a couple I am working with at FCA but they don't do Cavallino.

Another consideration is the quality of judging and risks. I would like to have my 355 judged, but I can spend 20% to have it done through FCA and also won't get a judge that thinks a 355 Challenge should have carpet.

No problem! I'm sure they'll find a lifestyle influencer to fill in :D

Lol, all their marketing emails seem to focus on the food and how special the chefs are anyways. Who cares about the judging when you have celebrity chefs!

If specifying the 206/246 Dino then why not just call it that instead of 6 cyl? Otherwise one might expect an award for Finest 8 cyl. Dino.

Wouldn’t the 308GT4 be “the origin of the 8 cylinder road cars”? If they want an award for the GTB/S Turbo, fine, then why not just call it that?

And I guess they forgot about the GT4 as an “anniversary car” even though they featured it as such in the latest issue of Cavallino.
