Your car was used in the CarWow test? DR72?… love the colour…. One thing I have to ask as a UK 296 owner and new to modern Ferraris… does Ferrari kick up a fuss for using the car like that if anything goes wrong?

Thanks. It is the car from last year. Ferrari have been nothing but excellent about it. GP Notts have looked after it. Battery and P2 motor were swapped out. I swear it feels faster than last year. We ran it in full manual with no launch last time.

that’s reassuring tho I guess depends on the dealer. H R Owen have been very good thus far…

  4. 296 faster in a straight line
SF90 faster when straight lines have curves

    Done.

True. On Fiorano during Corso Pilota the instructors were slightly faster in the SF90 than they were in the 296. I was averaging 3/4th of a second slower than the fastest instructor time (primarily due to them being better at on-gas throttle modulation, according to the data), but just as they were, I was also slightly faster in the SF90 than I was in the 296. The biggest difference between the two being the acceleration coming out of the apex of tight corners was better in the SF90.

ah, but which car was more enjoyable and satisfying to drive? The three tenths of a second is immaterial for anything outside of comparing exceptionally close lap times.

He said that he was 3/4 tenths slower than the instructors, not that this was the difference between the cars. ;)

Why answer for the man? He participates. He also said 3/4 slower than the “fastest” instructors, which tells us nothing. We know you’re all about averages. And he said “slightly” faster in an SF. So the point of which one is better to drive is certainly relevant. Performance being relatively equal, which one delivered it in a way that he liked more.

He also owns an SF and sold his 296 so we may have that answer already….

I hate to admit it, because my SF90 cost $250k more than my 296 did, but I actually enjoy driving a 296 more. It sounds better (to me), is more dynamic and lively, and is more sensitive to throttle and brake inputs from the driver. It doesn't look as good, (the SF90 has more presence), but is still a beautiful car in its own right.

As far as why I sold the 296 GTB, it's simply because when my SF90 arrived, the dealer had found a person willing to pay for than MSRP for my 296, so I took advantage of the offer. I have a 296 GTS on order now, that I plan on replacing the SF90 with when it arrives. The plan is to have a 296 GTS/Purosangue combo. Hope that helps.

One last thing I forgot to mention that I think is important. During lunch, I asked the instructors (who are also professional race car drivers) which car they preferred on track, and only one said he preferred the SF90. The others (3 or 4 of them) stated they prefer the 296, primarily due to the reasons I stated above.

that is the general feedback I have heard from everyone....most people prefer the feel of the lighter/smaller/RWD 296. Not all. Doesn't detract from the SF90, they are different cars with different goals in mind. I have personally driven both extensively and happen to favor the 296.

Thank you for this data so one who relies heavily on averages can determine his prejudice. 75% of professional drivers prefer the 296 on track lol.

Good thread, a lot of first hand experience with informative posting! Thanks @Divexxtreme

@rossi72 very cool that is your 296. Happy to hear about how great the dealer has been. Beautiful car and hope to see it running on the show again!

    @Jo Sta7 You still take the 765, right? :)

You're not kidding about that. His computer would crash after entering the url here... And your friend Cap who went scorched earth calling you a flipper last summer. That entire thread made me laugh out loud one night in my backyard. Good memories.

I forgot @ipsedixit also. Lots of crossover here. I go by a different name over there.

I got a chuckle over that too. I’ve lost so much money on cars that I could have bought a SpecialeA. The one time I had to get out of car (with profit) because of issues and with the help of corporate, I’m a flipper. lol.

I don't mind Nadeem, really. I think to some degree he's playing a character. He knows who he can rile up on that site and how. And he does it with a grin. He's also had multiple Ferraris.

I also think that site has become a joke with a few vocal members who have little experience but talk all the time so owners stay away. Much prefer the back and forth here with informed parties.

I can appreciate that opinion, although I hope it is not true. I originally joined to learn more about both brands (I like learning about little troubleshooting tips, ownership insight, etc), and because I love cars in general. Getting into experience, I am not sure what qualifies as a little or a lot. In any case, I will get one of the brands this coming Spring, but by either your or Nadeem's definition will still have little experience.

Having little experience and participating is fine but it should be to learn. Ask questions. There are a few vocal actors on that board that just reply constantly with their opinions. It’s valueless.
