Leclerc signs Ferrari F1 contract extension
Charles Leclerc has signed a fresh multi-year contract with the Ferrari Formula 1 team, extending his stay with the Scuderia for "several more seasons".

Ferrari stopped short of disclosing the exact length of the deal, but it is expected the Monegasque will remain with the team into the 2026 regulations shift.

"I’m very pleased to know that I will be wearing the Scuderia Ferrari race suit for several more seasons to come," Leclerc said.

The point being he didn't say 'our drivers', he said 'Charles'. We'll see what he says when/if they sign Carlos.

I believe Vasseur is stating he's making Leclerc their #1 driver.....which is right imo.

I believe I read somewhere it was until the end of the 2028 season.
Leclerc seems to dedicate his career totally to Ferrari.
They are so afraid to see him leave that they pay him a lot of money to stay.

This is puffery and posturing. The only team that looks seriously able to "maybe" challenge Red Bull is Mercedes. Charles and Ferrari came to terms because Charles doesn't really have anywhere else to go. Charles is a Monegasque Gentleman race car driver. He doesn't have the street fighter's heart that Max does, or that Hamilton used to. Nor do I think Vaseur can match Totto or Horner. The decline of Ferrari F1 is only half way to its bottom. McLaren and Williams are struggling off of theirs...Ferrari still has farther to fall. The cars that show up in Bahrain are barely going to be development mules. Same with Saudi Arabia and Australia. Maybe by Japan we will be looking at the beginning of the season, and see real racing between tuned and ready race cars.

That's debatable. Mercedes will probably have a vacant seat before 2028, so could Red Bull.
Between now and 2029, there could be other oportunities too.

Maybe Charles is strongly believing Vasseur will definitively improve the team.
    Not only a financial choice.
This guy want to be WDC in the end..

Charles being a gentleman race car driver is a cliché.
He’s a ruthless driver when things are becoming serious.
Just ask Hamilton for Monza 2019 or Verstappen for many wheel to wheel fights they had ( Austria, Silverstone etc..)
    Please don’t underestimate Vasseur ..
I’m not so sure Mercedes would be a be better place in the coming years compared with Ferrari.

So the contract terms are for 2025 and 2026.....before the new rules come into play.

It also appears this contract with Leclerc doesn't have an expiration date which has never before been introduced from the Scuderia.

I doubt Sainz gets a contract like this. Vasseur and Leclerc do have that commrodery.

Leclerc's present contract was to end this year.
He has now signed a new 5-year contract fo follow (according to Sportune).
    Apparently 40M€ for 20025, then 50M€ each year from 2026 to 2029.
There are undisclosed performance clauses on both sides, apparently.
It looks like everybody at Ferrari, Elkann, Vasseur and else, is gambling on a return to the winning circles from 2026 with the new formula.

Reading between the lines: Vasseur is eager to have a top driver for 2026, plus Elkann's words.
To me, it looks like Ferrari is playing the long game.
There is little chance to topple Red Bull from their pedestral until then.
The change of formula could reshuffle the cards and give Ferrari an opportunity.

I guess all the buzz is around Sainz now. I know he isn’t popular with some here but I hope he stays in the scuderia. Who would be a logical replacement?

I agree. I don't understand the flak he is getting here. It's totally unjustified, IMO.

The problem is neither Leclerc nor Sainz have a lot to choose from. Verstappen is not going to leave Red Bull, Mercedes is not doing better than Ferrari and Aston Martin or Audi are a gamble.

I'm not so sure it's logical to replace him to begin with. It seems like the solution to a problem that just doesn't exist?

What I do see as a problem is not choosing one driver to build the team and car around when the drivers' respective preferences are different...

If he takes an offer from another team it may not be logical but replacing him would be necessary.

Sorry, I misread your original post. That's a good question. Albon's name has been floating around, but I'm unsure if he's the best fit. I actually think Pierre Gasly might be a good fit since him and Leclerc are already close. I also happen to think he's currently underrated.

I don't see Gasly as being better than Albon, and maybe neither of them is above Sainz.
I think Sainz will move if he feels he isn't appreciated at Ferrari. But it's early days.
