I did not believe him but Google says so.... 2800 odd Dino gt4's vs 3500 ish 246 Dino's

That blows me away. I have a 930 and thought its rare and just googled it and 18000! so as the title says holy ****. The GT4's out there are rare. Probably rarer too as so many races or parted as seen as sub car in 90's.
Every dog has its day. Kind of cool.

Sure. But there's a distinction between *rare* and *desired*. It's kinda like a slant-6 powered Plymouth Barracuda.

Back in 2002 when I bought my 328, a GT4 was a 10-15 thousand dollar car. I'm glad they've come into their own as collectables, but they are still very niche vehicles.

You may be right,- but fashion is a strange thing. I own an old Toyota FJ40 and for twenty years no one even saw it when I drove unless a smirk at the older guy in the crappy truck, and now every two blocks waved?, moved at gas stations and even full blow waves on the open road from open oncoming cars. Point being fashion is fickle like the odd looking 17 year old in class who became a literal supermodel.

also the Lamborghini / design connection is odd / interesting and the GT4 seems to benefiting from ever growing social media coverage and this attracts a younger audience. One video had it sitting with 70's Lambos.. It seems odd / somewhat surprising to me as a Porsche guy to now see Magnus Walker extolling virtues and he has huge followings. Then apparently he buys one...

Yes and no. The actual production numbers are more or less the same, when taking the 208 GT4 into account. Figures are:
    152 Dino 206 + 3569 Dino 246: total = 3721
    2826 308GT4 + 840 208GT4 : total = 3666

Back in the early 80 s as a student ( Guys hospital London) my 1 st yr students digs meant everyday I had to walk past a SE London second hand car lot that did Italian cars .
    246 Dinos , Lamborghini espada , early mk1 GT 4 s etc could all be had for circa £5-7 K each .
My nose was almost permanently deformed due it being constantly pressed up on the show room glass .
Great exam motivation “ one day I will have one of those if I work hard “

20 yrs later success dawned professionally and after plenty of Porsches I dipped my toe in to F car with a Testarossa, followed by the 360M F1 , to finally ( never could get the student experience out of my mind ) to the current GT 4 208 Italian version.
I took the long way round .

The Gandini / Bertone story is the differentiator here in the classic story .It’s the nicest one to drive the GT 4 .

A friend 10 yrs younger than me dipped his toe into F car for the first time with £180 K s worth of 488 red of course .
Not sure he’s enjoying it , too big , too fast , too low , too much abuse by other drivers .

U.K. white van man give me the thumbs up gesture , my mate in his new 488 receives another universal hand gesture .

I wonder if the recent Michael Mann film “Ferrari “ with its strong educational bias to Dino , Enzos son will in some way , by kinda educational end up piquing further interest in the “Dino “ brand ?

Also what will happen when Marcelo Gandini passes away ? Normally great artist work sores in value post mortem .

With a decent boot ( trunk ) and the 2+2 thingy they are practical classics as well .

    Good day,

I agree. In fact I used my old 308 GT4 as a daily driver for about 6 years. It ran great for the most part (although somewhat thirsty) and the issues I did have were mostly my own... well.... except when it suffered the dreaded sodium filled valve failure.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Our stories are similar. I went through more than a dozen Porsches including four 356 Speedsters and two 1973 2,7RSs across 40 years before buying my first Ferrari, a 330GTC, in my opinion the best all ‘round Ferrari ever. After other v12s I now also have a 308GT4.

I was thinking about your post and agree re art world prices and passing of artists. I looked up Gandini's fabulous designs, what a futuristic thinker - but then it hit me.
Stratos!. Look at it and then the gt4. Side on it is striking. Anyway I sold my gt4 7 years ago so stupid me, but I'm thinking time may prove me very silly, and that supply and demand l the lineage will lift it from the realm of quoted taste. A stratos sold for close to a million dollars. 246's are nearly there. Who's the dummy. lol.

Of the cars you keenly eyed whilst at medical school, I wonder if at this date the GT4 is the under appreciated car value wise if the group? I'll wager my morning coffee here I'm enjoying, ten years from now with the passage of time, scarcity, the Ferrari's Lamborghini

I'll wager my morning coffee here I'm enjoying, ten years from now with the passage of time, scarcity, being the only Ferrari Lamborghini will no longer be seen as an outcast, but a rare example of a collaboration of firsts for Ferrari. I also agree with a previous poster that the Ferrari film will highlight the deep place Enzo's son had in the overall story of the brand. It was good the cars helped motivate you at medical school also. Great story.

No like your 930, the 308 GT4 hs superior balance and is one of the most neutral Ferrari ever

Yea i remember when I had the GT4, I had slightly old hard tyres and I could power slide in second gear ( when I was young and silly) and I was amazed I could have it totally spinning up in a controlled drift that I was basically controlling with the throttle feathering and adding to keep the drift. A very light hand was all that was needed along with the throttle to do this. I have a photo somewhere I'll try to find. A. Stunningly balanced car. The 930 won't do that. Well it will 1/4 of a second before it tries to kill me.

I’ve had a lot of 930’s, and seat time in them since I was 16. They are quite nice to drive if you know how. I’ve never found them to be as horrible as people make them sound. The 78-79 euro cars are my favorite variant, as the power delivery is so violent.
