i will be flying in to Naples to help my Dad out this year - i think he entered 4 cars - lets see if we can get them all in ! anybody else on here going?
I'm working on talking my wife into going with me, but if not, I will probably arrive solo. I'll wear a FerrariChat hat so keep an eye out for me. What cars will you and your dad be bringing? D
the original plan was for us to bring the 280sl, the '77 930, the '54 austin healey , and the '61 flat floor jag.... but as it turns out, the 930 has not come back from restoration, the flat floor wont start despite a lot of encouragement, so, its likely that we just bring the 280sl and the AH (which won best of show a few years ago so wont be awarded again). the Mercedes though is nearly 100pt car, so we shall see...
If you're going I'm going! Unfortunately I won't get into town until around noon. Now, how do we get Rob L to go??? Steve
Will be there. I think my 7th year in a row. Not bringing any of my Ferraris, Vettes, etc... just not into driving quite that far for a weekend & trailering can get dicey... just down for 4 days to relax & hit the car show & see some other FCA friends that have places or go down for the show
Ran into Ross and his Dad at the auction today. I wanted to see the Ferrari 330 GTC hitting the block today. I doubt it sold. Not the right venue to sell a car like that. I know the owner. He told me his longest drive in that car is to the auction! I told him I drove my GTC 800 miles from Naples to our home in the mountains in NC. Different strokes… Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login I will be there wearing my red Alfa shirt. Maybe we can meet each other!

Too many people and the cars on the street are packed in. I attended the last two years but wouldn't exhibit either of my Ferraris. There are people on bicycles, people with baby carriages and lots of unfettered kids.
Here’s a few in the VIP section… Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
ah so thats where they were keeping the good stuff ! i saw the tent but frankly didnt want to spend $260 for me an my dad to see stuff i either own or have seen before - too bad i didnt know about this previosuly
the crowds were IMMENSE! once it got going Dad and i had to stay with our cars for fear of being overrun. i am usually not too precious about the cars but we ended up putting in the pagoda and the Healey, which are both 100pters, so had to be a little vigilant. (the kid running his toy car over the trunk the 280sl was the prime example of the unattended kid danger !)
it was great seeing Steve on Friday - if anybody is concerned about his well being then let me assure you Steve is alive and kicking ! fine form ! that 330gtc got $825 and no higher (which coincidentally was the price they had paid for it from canepa a couple years ago), and i thought that definitely ALL the money they were going to get for it - anywhere. its very nice, and has some unique features, but it is still a 330gtc. i happened to be close to the owner's wife when the auctioneers were trying to get her to lower the reserve but she insisted to keep it at $950 plus whatever the buyers premium was so likely would have cost the buyer a mil....too much. as for the rest of the auction, there were many no sales, stalling at roughly 80-90% of what i considered value, which indicates to me that the buyers premium was probably a little high. btw, on that note, in the morning, after placing our cars, and prior to the crowds arriving, we went around to see every car. there were many entered by local car sellers, and the prices they had posted were about 30-60% higher than the broader market....leading me to believe that Naples must have a lot of people with more dollars than sense - at least about car prices!
Hi Ross….I got your message but my phone didn’t work all day. Verizon was swamped. Cars on 5th has gotten too big. I never made it down to where you Dads cars were displayed. I spent much of my time on Park St where the Ferraris were. And at the VIP tent too. I saw a lot of friends from Naples that I had not seen in ages….since we moved to NC and winter in St Petersburg. Many did not know I had a stroke. It’s hard for me to be in crowded spaces due to my brain struggles. And I needed a break from the show. A dear friend gave me a key to his room at Inn on 5th to rest in the afternoon. I passed out immediately and fell asleep for two hours in the afternoon. I woke up for the drive off at 4. I paid for it today. My brain and hearing is tired. But it was worth it. Kind of like having a hangover without the symptoms. I congratulated Tom O ‘Riordan the President who took the reins from me. He works so hard to raise the funds for St Matthews. My hats off to him.
It was great to see you in any case! The next time we meet, you will feel even better! Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Here we are with the ‘56 Austin Healey 100 BN2 - nearly 100pt car that won Best in Show here a few years ago. We didn’t win this time, but Dad and I had fun showing it and talking with all the interested people. [emoji3] Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I was there as well with a few friends and my wife .. way too crowded for me , at least down the middle in the street . The VIP tent was better and where we ended up hanging out for a few hours . I honestly thought the auction on Friday was a joke . Probably a bad mix of the absence of enough good cars to draw a good buyers pool coupled with lofty expectations equals one out of 7 or so sell through .. it looked like the local car dealers were just entering their used cars lol.. wish I could have met a few of you there .. was a really fun weekend overall and the restaurant scene was great . Steve just two suggestions from my perspective in case you talk to the new organizer - they should have temporary cell towers for the event- not safe to have the cellular system completely paralyzed. - second suggestion is a few signs to the VIP tent . Was hard to find if you didn’t know where it was . Last, Steve, congrats on starting an incredible event like that - must make you proud to come back and see how it’s exploded in popularity .
