    Hi Guys,

I just purchased a 488 (I still don't have it, it needs to be shipped).
One flaw that I would like to fix, is the speaker grill that seems to be chipped from the seat belt hitting it .
From what I understand, it's very common, but little things like that annoy me because I'm very anal with my cars.
I looked up the part, and it seems to be only about $50, but I was wondering if it's easy to remove. I obviously haven't looked at it yet, but was wondering if anyone knows how to remove it? I'm sure it's easy, but want to make sure I don't damage anything in the process.
Another option I considered, is that if somebody knows the exact paint color match, I think I can use a really fine brush to touch up the spots, and they would probably never show.
    Any recommendations?

It's most likely similar to the 458.

    Thanks for the info!
Hopefully the 488 is the same (it should be), because that's very easy.

No idea about the exact color but my go to flat black for anything is BBQ paint. Maybe do a spray test and see if it matches.

When I look at the pic closely, I think it may be more of a dark charcoal satin though. But like you said, I probably need to experiment with a few samples and pick the closest one. I have a feeling that I'm just going to replace the part though. I will update this thread with what I decided, so I can hopefully help others as well, since I know it's a common problem.

I am having the same issue as you did with the speaker grill having small scrapes. Can you provide more detail on the paint color you used? Spray paint for metal? What brand? Specific color name? Any further details to help me get the same result as you did would be greatly appreciated. thanks

It was just a regular Satin black automotive touch up paint in a bottle with a brush (see attached photo).
I purchased from e-bay, I tried to find it for you on e-bay, but I can't find the exact one.
I used those jewelry magnifying glasses so I could work accurately, and a really fine brush, and carefully touched up all the shiny spots. The color isn't an exact match (the car may be a little more charcoal I think), but it looks WAY better, and it doesn't catch your eye when you look at it.

Thanks. Appreciate the quick response. I'll look at all options and hopefully find something that matches really well. Thinking of using a metal spray paint and just covering the whole grill to give it an even coating. I'll just tape off the door so I don't need to remove the grill. I have several grills to paint......door and by the seatbelt.

I wouldn't spray it because it's a speaker grill, and you don't want to fill the holes/dust mesh with paint.

Just take the panel off. It's simple.

The 488 is exactly the same. It takes 2 mins. Pull up the weather seal and loosen the 1 screw then slide the panel out.

At this point, the paint made it look good enough where it didn't stand out. If it ever bothers me again, I will order the grill and install it. It's only about $50

I would have just removed that panel. You'd be able to remove the grill from the back side so that you can scuff it up and repaint it. You aren't going to plug those holes up with paint unless you're rolling it on lol

Glad you got it without removing though!

I was responding to wolfman88 saying that he wanted to spray in place.
But then again, even if it was removed, if there is a material/mesh glued to it, I wouldn't spray it. And once it's off, why not spend the $50 and get a brand new one.
