To be fair, it can also be that there is internal chaos at Mercedes right now that isn't public right now. Like Ferrari at the turn of 09', they've been losing senior people left and right, and it could be that the staff Hamilton had faith in are either gone or on their way at, and he sees the writing on the wall as he did at McLaren, and is willing to take a big gamble with Ferrari.

Either way, it's going to be one ugly season at Mercedes.

You are putting too much thought into to a small concern. When I watch F1, Sir Lewis Hamilton praises his team way more than he criticize them. Many drivers criticize their team. Google Max criticizing RB, Vettal Ferrari, Leclerc Ferrari, Bottas Alfa etc. I would say google Alonso criticizing but its too much info to read. Its like certain people become blind when other drivers do things.

I can't wait to here the car radio with him on the wrong tires or sitting in the pits while they are racing around trying to figure out which tires to put on, "guys" why did I pit before everyone else, why did I pit after everyone else...

Yes, you could be right there. Already Mercedes has lost important staff in recent years, plus with this announcement, they are now facing a whole season (24 races and plenty of travelling) sharing space with in individual who has voted with his feet and is going to leave. I am wondering what the atmosphere within the team will be. There could be some personel feeling disappointed or disheartened by the coming departure of their star driver. Some may think about living too, and look for another position in a different team. Some may well think about following Hamilton to Ferrari; Who knows ?
And what about Russell? Will the team pull behind him, or still give preference to Hamilton ?
Hamilton's are big shoes to fill for Russell coming under the spotlight as the next team leader.
How Toto will be managing that? Will he spend the year looking for a replacement ? Interesting times ahead !

    No pun intended?

You're much more likely to miss your Bino silent movies than LH straightening anything at F.

If they had some bizarre epiphany and had to have a mature driver, Alonso would be the infinitely better choice.

    Clearly F lost their marbles.

Horner has his own issues about Perez. But Red Bull is in a better position.

Both Ferrari and Mercedes will be on the back foot this coming season, each team having one driver leaving soon.

Sure, all drivers criticize their teams. But Hamilton does so in a way that goes beyond simple criticism. He'll question his teams commitment and his faith in them in public, and sometimes outright insults the technical departments abilities. We've all seen him do it.

Mercedes might not have had a car as fast as RB, but it was certainly no "tractor" as some of Hams fans have said. It was capable of winning, it podiumed frequently, and was best of the rest, even if it didn't win a grand prix. For Hamilton to have been so critical of the team with a puss on his face and demand "accountability" for it not being a RB, had to have lowered morale at Mercedes, especially after they took Ham to 6x WDC's only just a few years ago. They have every right to demand some respect back from Hamilton, and my guess is Toto decided he'd had enough, and was ready to stand by the much larger team and show his support for them.

When you have to do an entire season with a driver, who has made it publicly known, he does NOT want to drive you any longer, that's got nothing but bad news written all over it.

Yes, the team will back Russell this year. No question in my mind.

But here's an even more dramatic scenario: what if Mercedes begin winning races again? What if they take a big step towards RB? There's also no question in my mind that in that scenario, Hamilton will have regrets and see if there's a way out of his commitment to Ferrari, as Button did at BAR when the latter started to progress as Williams (who he was bound for) got dysfunctional in public.

A 40 year old one. Scuderia Freaky.

Maybe RB replaces Perez with Sainz and he pulls a Suarez at Atletico.

At this stage of his career I don’t see Lewis changing teams without a long list of demands and hopefully whatever are in those demands will end beneficial to the team . Charles could end being the big winner or loser , he beats Lewis and he will take it to another level , he loses to Lewis and based on what I have seen of him , he could end up losing his mojo .
Let’s wish both of them and the team the best of luck and success , bring home a championship or 2

Sainz at Ferrari will be interesting. Both teams are or might possibly experience ‘internal’ friction.

I honestly think driving for and potentially winning races for Ferrari will be worth more than an 8th title at Merc.
This was an opportunity to do something different in a completely different environment, rather than something he has already done.
I think he wouldn't have left (willingly) for any other team. There will be no regrets.

I've heard Max and others say things about his team that surpasses everything you mentioned about Lewis man. I mean "tractor" is not even using profanity. I can't even repeat some of Magnussen's radio messages about his team. I am seriously struggling to see any separation from what Sir Lewis Hamilton says vs any other driver.

To all you "Tifosi" who say you won't support Ferrari anymore because Lewis is coming I can only say "Goodbye!" and of course, "Good riddance!". Hopefully we won't suffer any more of your ridiculous posts.

Remember they called Sir Lewis Hamilton fans "fake" and said they would leave when he retires. Now I'm seeing a lot of fake "Tifosi" claiming to leave. At least when all the fake Tifosi leave it will be more pleasant.

Sorry, I’m going to stick around here just so I can watch the **** show ;) Ill take my lumps if he wins but I’ll dish them out as well, fair play and all :D Guess you’ll just have to suffer more ridiculous posts till 2025 and beyond! (Although as Ferrari fans we’ve all been suffering for awhile now) :(

Good natured kidding aside, I’ll be the first to man up and admit if and when I’m wrong but I don’t foresee Lewis and Ferrari winning a championship.

    Time will tell.

All I will say is - remember Mansell (Nigel). There were a lot of moans when he joined Ferrari but he rose above that to become 'Il Leone' - I expec that Lewis will make a significant contribution to a classic F1 team. As for me it is going to cost a fortune to upgrade all my gear from Mercedes to Ferrari but I will be proud to do so.
