So what seems to be the best manifold replacements out there? I have about 5 ticks before the engine warms up…. I may be over reacting but I’m sure sooner or later they will need attended to.

I haven't changed mine yet, but after having done some research over the past year, my preference will be going towards an IPE header setup, here in Holland/EU they seem to be the best bang for buck when looking at "Equal Length" headers. Sure you can get other well renowned brands for cheaper, but those are all "unequal length" headers making the car sound more like a muscle car than a supercar...

    Capristo is a good choice.

Scud manifolds don’t usually run into problems, but replacements are $15k/pair new for OE. That was the main reason I went with Capristos at around 20k mi… to preserve them.

Scud manifolds are known for warping and breaking the very end studs and they will tick for a few seconds cold. We have had great success in surfacing the header and installing new hardware with no issues returning.

Likely a broken stud and a warped manifold. I am in Washington state but any good shop can remove and send it to a machine shop for servicing. Once they warp and are resurfaced I have not had one come back with the issue again.

happy with my capistro's, but then again, I have nothing to compare them too as they came installed on my car (make sure to get heat blankets...really makes a difference).

Scott I have an S Line muffler…….will the capristos mate to it?

  11. Scottslaw

    Scottslaw Formula Junior

Nope, but they will mate to the cats, which will then mate to the s-line!

Capristos give more low/mid range power and increase in sound volume. Maybe even more F1 pitch if mated to a proper x-pipe exhaust. As far as I can tell, there are no negatives in the powerband vs OE.

Tubi manifolds, while a very nice alternative to OE manifolds, give no extra power. They’re just more durable.

Good to know, thanks. I'm adding some nice used 200 cell Kline cats soon to bridge the gap between my Capistro manifolds and Kline valved exhaust. Hoping its not too loud, and also hoping I can at least feel some seat of the pants improvement in power/tq. Will probably do a tune as well just to tie it all together since I've gone this far.

My car had Capristo manifolds + Kline Inconel valved x-pipe muffler + Kline 100 cell inconel cats. Not loud enough. Put on straight pipes. Only 10% increase in volume. Ok, but still not loud enough to my personal standards. It’s hard to get the Kline valved x-pipe (or any other valved x-pipe designed muffler) to increase in volume. It’s more quiet than stock in some sense.

Your car should already feel noticeably quicker than a stock Scud if you get an opportunity to drive one. If not, get lighter wheels and you’ll feel difference. The car will feel very adequate. I see no need for the car to be any more quicker than it is at that stage for the road. Drop some weight where you can reasonably find it (ex. Lithium battery). In short, there’s no need for a 458 Speciale :).

Agreed! Already have a rear kline inconel muffler and antigravity battery. Lighter wheels is probably the last of the low-lying fruit in terms of weight reduction, as after that it gets pretty dang expensive and not a great bang for the buck (i.e., carbon rear hatch, carbon side skirts, etc...). Ditching the heavy steel rotors for the stock ccm's really did make a difference, so I bet lighter wheels would help too, although I think the scud wheels are already pretty light so the difference probably would not be that dramatic.

Replacing the stock rear diffuser with a CF one can be a good savings. The stock one is pretty heavy.

Not only dang expensive, but not much lighter either! I’ve never weighed it, but I swear the rear hatch with the poly carbonate window weighs one pound.

I did an X pipe (S-Line) and antigravity battery as well. I considered the HRE R 101’s for a moment as I love them on my Aston but I just couldnt do it. I love the look of the stock speedlines, even though they are a little bit heavier.

Standard for 09's. Was an option for late 08's. The non-carbon Scud rear diffuser is much lighter than the F430 rear diffuser. But yes, the carbon rear diffuser is what you ultimately want to have if not for aesthetics alone.

For those with the Kline exhaust how much weight was saved over stock?

Oengus: I had one manifold that ticked on startup as you describe. I milled it flat and it's been fine.

Kline Inconel muffler weighs 20 lbs. The stock muffler weighed quite a bit. I'd say 40-50lbs, but someone should double check.

If the Scud stainless steel version of the Kline is the same weight as the f430 version then it weighs close to stock. Maybe a few pounds less, but not much. In retrospect, I should have ordered the Inconel version for my car.

Better heat retention and better patina with the Inconel. Inconel patina only gets better over time. SS, not so much.

    39lbs even.

For anyone interested, the S-Line X pipe is 17.8

Optima redtop was 39lbs. Antigravity I installed is 11.6lbs (AG-H5-40-RS)
