Incorrect. Drivers never knew more about engineering than actual engineers. Show where Schumacher played a key role in designing engine software or aerodynamic packages.
Due to unlimited testing in the Schumacher era, Schumacher helped engineers design the car and Schumacher knew the terminology to aid the engineers. There's even a video where the Ferrari 2004 even baffled Ferrari's engineers because they didn't think it was going to be that fast but Schumacher knew already that it was going to be fast.
Correct, Schumacher was excellent at feedback and helping devope. But engineers were key to building great cars then, and the same today, not drivers. So I was asking to provide info about a software that Schumacher coded, or breakthrough performance piece that he designed because you said he knew more than the engineers.
No I do not and you may be aware of Sir Michael Schumacher's current state of health? I never particularly cared for Michael Schumacher though I respected him as a driver and for what he achieved. I also respect Lewis as a driver but all of the GOAT BS is due to a dominant car in the stupid Token era which limited technical advancement by competitors. That and we now have 20 + races in a season and drivers are rarely killed(thankfully) as was the case in previous decades. Lewis didn't build the Mercedes team, he was anointed by Niki Lauda. I have been a Ferrari fan and following F1 for more than 5 decades(yes I'm old). There were drivers killed at the first two F1 races I attended. You can't compare different eras, the hybrid era especially. To call Sir Lewis Hamilton the GOAT given this perspective is nonsense. He is an exceptional driver at a fortuitous moment in his career and making a bloody fortune doing it. BTW this formula sucks.
You're talking about coding software? Really!! Name me an F1 driver who knows coding software. What about the mechanics of pitch and yaw under braking and suspension setup? What about brake bias? What about quali trim on the engine? What about race pace on the engine? What about I need more downforce in the front? What about I need more downforce in the rear? What about balancing the car front and rear with downforce under braking?
I hear ya. I'm just a bit pissy at the "true fans" who don't like Hamilton (hey I'm not a fan of a lot of his crap either) and seem to have completely disregarded the possibility he may help the team win, as if they just don't care about winning. So done with that ****. Now, I get it, we're all just speculating here. Who knows if Hamilton will help or not? Who knows if Ferrari will produce a winning car and a winning strategy on race day? And for sure, they will have to produce a winning car and race strategy if they are to have any hope of winning.
That’s true but I wonder how long they can justify focusing on the mid pack instead of the winners and front runners. I mean do we really tune in to hear what some backmarker or mid field rolling chicane has to say? Once in awhile it’s a nice contrast to break The monotony but to regularly feature them is foolish IMO. Personally I think it’s a result of DTS and the need to fabricate drama. This season should be interesting!
I took an informal poll at the local Ferrari get together last night. Most were "thumbs down" on the Lewis hire. Maybe they will be happy if in 2025 SF wins the WC. Sheesh!
I'm not a Ham "fan" I do think this year he has displayed much more humility and thats good. A fit for Ferrari... IDK. If they win because of him, great. I'm making cash on him via stock, but I dont think he's the right guy. I would have kept Carlos if it was all about winning.
I get your aggravation but what’s worse, someone who hated Lewis and now suddenly loves him because he’s in the Scuderia or someone who has disliked him for years and won’t flop and support him simply because he’s on “our” side thereby sitting this one out? Where do you draw the line? It’s a lose/lose situation.
You should have followed up with "On the ones with the thumbs down is it because of Lewis's driving on the track or is it because of what Lewis does outside the track and what he brings into the track with [P&R]? That should tell you a true meaning of your Ferrari poll.
For sure. I was very specific to say, this is not a thumbs up or thumbs down on what you think of Lewis, but on the hire by SF. Most were thumbs down on the hire. When people elaborated on their answer it was mostly about the stuff off the track, the attitude, lamenting the breakup of the current team, directing blame to the poor performance of the car and strategy, you know, the usual stuff. The handful of people I talked to (who were Ferrari owners and F1 fans) were mostly sour about the hire.
We all know he purposely does that to subtlety tweak everyone who doesn’t like Hamilton. No different than when people refer to him as Elton, LuLu, Louise, etc. albeit more “covert”. I think he gets a pass because technically Lewis does have that dubious distinction from our former oppressors Even though it doesn’t hold water in the free land of the USA
I agree. I just dont know if hes a Ferrari fit. I'm a new guy here, but my family has been in the Ferrari family since the 60s. I was always told "Ferrari first" Hamilton might need to have a class on that. Just my thoughts. If he brings the title to Maranello I'll wave the flag!
I never said Sir Lewis Hamilton was the GOAT. No such thing as goat. Impossible to put them all in the same car. My stance is Sir Lewis Hamilton is one of the greatest drivers in the history of the sport. In no way building a team is required to be a great driver. Other people are hired to build a team.
Well, now your touching on "What was Ferrari then" onto "Where is Ferrari going" with the signing of Hamilton.. Ferrari then is not the same as Ferrari now because of Hamilton. Elkann is changing the face of Ferrari of which IF "il Commendatore" were alive today he would have NEVER agreed to Hamilton's Mission 44 project....just the racing aspect of Hamiltons signing and that's it. I hear ya.
I'm not even a racecar driver and I know those terms. Every driver is likely familiar with all you mentioned. Designing a car that can do all those things in conjuction with each other is engineering.
As I said, different era's with unlimited testing and a real scale car. Now they have wind tunnels with 1/6 scale models to design their car and testing in Bahrain. Who would have thought porpoising would rear it's ugly head with all the engineering software and engineering prowess that an F1 team can muster up.
You know, with all the money Lewis was being paid, Lewis could have funded his Dad's participation at not much more than a rounding error in his income.
