    Some would say that's the most beautiful a 308 GT4 has ever looked !! ;) ;)

That's just awful. What an absolute waste of a car. Even if it was beyond restoring, it could have been used as a donor to help other cars survive. And this "artist" is supposed to have aesthetic appreciation.

I was told he got the non-running Dino 308 GT4 for 5 Grand, cut it in pieces, produced some artwork and individual frames with body pieces and was already able to sell one of these frames for 38 Grand!

That sounds like the art market. I guess it is kind of hard to discourage this sort of thing when even Ferrari "experts" are cheering it on...

Not if Ferrari SpA is going to sue this "artist". :D

Well, it’s more destructive than…but not as artistically absurd as …the Modulo NFTs that RM Sotheby’s was flogging a couple of years ago.

I’d like to obtain a copy of the Costa book if anyone can show me how. I couldn’t find out anything in a web search. Thanks.

We all know Ferrari SpA has filed lawsuits against people who went too far in transforming their car.
This very 'transformation' of a Dino 308 GT4 into a piece of art, maybe a case apart, we'll see what happens...

I have no knowledge of applicable laws in Europe but it seems unlikely that there would be a valid cause of action against the “artist.” In fact he might be lauded in an upcoming issue of Cavallino…..;)

It's not declared an Italian National Treasure like Michelangelo's David or an Alfa 8C 2300 Monza--it's an old used car. If he is the rightful owner (with title) he can do whatever he wants.

Yes, absolutely. This, though, just seems banal and cynically "provocative". If works like Arman's Long Term Parking or Ant Farm's Cadillac Ranch have a definite air of organic coolness about them, I say this is more in line with Mike Sheehan's crushed Ferrari table, a now largely forgotten (except on YouTube) stunt from 40 years ago...

Ah, "art" at Rétromobile... always the fun part of a classic car show. If you need a good laugh there's the place to go.

I still remember my visit last year, when a very candid friend of mine couldn't help bursting out laughing and saying out loud "but, that's horrible" in front of a comic portrait of Steve McQueen made out of what looked like miscellaneous rubbish painted in bright colours. The "artist", who looked to me more like a rich housewife who'd found a vocation out of boredom, was standing right behind us and responded with an outraged "oh, well, thank you very much". Best moment of the show.

My point of view? Is it enough to master a soldering iron and put the result of your work in a frame to be an artist? I'm not sure...

Got to see the Cadillac Ranch right after it was created in May of 1974. Since then it's turned into an abomination.

The only thing he is guilty of is having bad taste.

Is this about the 1961 palace coup? Does the author have any credentials?
