Giving feedback about the behaviour of a car by driving it is quite different from designing it.
All a driver can do is testing a car, validate the engineer's work, or criticise it.
A tester may guide the engineers to finalise details, once the car is already built, but that's about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong William but they had more test drivers in those days instead of using the driver? Just as they use test drivers through the simulator now.

Possibly but when it came to Schumacher, he tested relentlessly.

Ferrari always had testing facilities nearby: Modena, and then Fiorano.
Schumacher prefered to do most of the testing himself.

I think this is a good move for Ferrari. Hamilton is the most popular driver on the grid. He is also extremely talented and an upgrade from Sainz. Ferrari now have best driver pairing in F1. I hope they can deliver a car to match their talent.

"I will never leave Mclaren *cough Mercedes*...loyalty is everything". Leaves them out of nowhere and doesn't even have the stones to address them in person after literally spending his whole life on Mercs dime.

Spend all his time possible talking about Senna and Mclaren and that's why it's his dream...how he never respected Schumacher. Not once has he mentioned that he'd love to drive for Ferrari or even indicated as much but now all of a sudden it's been his childhood dream. As fake as his ''bono my tyres are done'' calls.

Of course! Madame Louise Hamilton has been Ferrari's life long enemy that's why fans criticize him no matter what he says. ;) No different than any other sport. Sports have rivals. Do you watch any other sports?

Don't tell us you don't bad mouth our Lord and Savior, F1 God, Lewis couldn't hold his jock strap, Michael Schumacher any chance you can. :D Pot meet kettle! ;)

Disclaimer - I am not Hamilton's biggest fan, but......

    1) If he wins races for the Scuderia, you will love him for it. At the end of that day it does not matter who drives the car as long as the silver wear comes in !

    2) If another Ferrari renaissance is truly coming, and he secures both the WDC & WCC you will declare him a deity.................even through gritted teeth. Note: See item 1

Eh this forum is too far gone for that.

A large part of the forum thinks Abu Dhabi 2021 was not blatant fixing. Even though Sainz (a literal Ferrari driver) was illegally cut out of a chance to fairly compete for a higher result.

That’s just how much some wanted Hamilton to lose. That’s not rational anymore, it’s emotional.

Do you mean Lap 1 of Abu Dhabi 2021, where Hamilton was allowed to gain a position off-track? YES, that most certainly was "blatant fixing"!!

Verstappen won the 2021 championship by passing Hamilton on-track. Every thing else is background noise (and the incessant whining of sore losers, still trying to re-write history).

I will never jump ship to become a Hamilton fan. I will respect his good drives just as I do today, but I will be happy it is for Ferrari. When he drives poorly or acts like a clown I won't keep quiet simply because he wears a red fire suit now.

I didn't like Alonso in the Renault, but I respected the hell out of how good he was. Now I am a big fan. I didn't care for Vettel at Red Bull. Hell I even cheered for Hamilton at COTA 2012 when he passed Vettel. In his later years I became a fan. The difference is they were simply rivals to Ferrari. I didn't have a problem with the men they were. I do not like Hamilton the person.

How do you judge most popular? If it’s solely social media then yes Lewis is the most “popular”. Personally I’d put more weight on the driver’s opinion than the mass of sheeple but I’m an old fart. :D

Definitely not me. The team doesn't need a cry baby at all. We need top designers/technicians/strategists.

We have a pair of good solid drivers now. There's absolutely zero evidence that Hamilton is able to bring teams from tough situations up. In fact, he's known to ask permission to retire the car when it's not favourable for him.

He's no Schumacher or Alonso. In fact, i rather have Lando Norris or Oscar at helm. A young, fast, hungry driver. Not a washed up prima donna trying to milk everything before he calls it a day.

Well of course, this is Ferrari. Known for the last 15 years of making ufcked up decisions.

I voted Yes as I have been wanting this to happen for years. I'd be happy if Max joined Ferrari too, although that'd take a bit of getting used to (like when Vettel joined). I really hope this move will help to entice some more talent to the Scuderia, as they have been quite isolated in Italy and away from the motorsport hub in the UK.
The Horner drama could potentially mean a move for Newey. That would be a very welcome move too.

I get that Lewis can be a divisive figure off the track, but so were Hunt and Mansell, Max's family, Kimi, and probably many others. Makes no difference to their on-track performances.

Well said! The future is now and it includes a major driver move in the next season and additional team driver changes. Sr Engineers etc. We have an unstatic series at least off the circuit. How RedBull fare in competition will be the focus soon and how the other teams have developed over the winter to challenge. Lets get this party started!

Bringing Lewis to Maranello is the stupidity of the century. Enzo turns in his grave.
Hamilton stands for anything that Ferrari never was and hopefully never will be.

Lewis is a racing driver and a pretty good one at that. How does that stand against what Ferrari stand for? I think the only reason that Enzo would be annoyed is that we didn't sign him earlier.
