I saw this on another forum. I thought it would be fun to try here.

    This is what I remember!

    '65 English Ford Cortina
    '71 MGB
    '69 Renault 10
    '62 Ford Thunderbird
    '69 Fiat 124 Spyder
    '79 Fiat X 1/9 (1st new car!)
    '80 Ferrari Mondial t
    '82 Porsche 928
    '85 Ferrari 308 GTSi Quatrovalvole
    '87 Range Rover
    '87 Ferrari Testarossa
    '88 Porsche 928 S4
    '89 Lotus Esprit Turbo
    '89 Ferrari 348 ts
    '89 Ferrari Mondial t cab
    '91 Lotus Elan
    '92 Range Rover
    '92 Ferrari F40
    '87 March/Cosworth 87C
    '95 Range Rover
    '95 Land Rover Defender 90
    '00 BMW X5 4.4
    '01 Porsche 911tt
    '02 Porsche 911tt
    '03 MB SL55 AMG
    '01 BMW M3
    '01 BMW M5
    '04 Ferrari Challenge Stradale
    '04 Porsche Cayenne S
    '09 Porsche Cayenne S
    '11 Porsche Cayenne Turbo
    '17 McLaren 570S Track Pack

There are 2 that got away. I tried to get my dad to buy a Ferrari 250 GTO that was advertised in Road & Track in '69 for $8500. He thought I was crazy. The other was a McLaren F1 for $600K....... I thought it was too much! I offered $400 and he didn't bite.

Awesome list You owned both the most maligned analog Ferrari of all time (Mondial) and arguably most celebrated (F40, sans the 250 of course!) It doesn't get more opposite ends of the spectrum then that!

Would love to hear your thoughts on both?

This is where I shut up and listen.

The Modial t was one on the most versatile and great driving Ferraris I've had. The roof was a little fiddly, but I liked the looks and it handled great.

The F40 was/is an incredible car. I did everything with it...... trips, track days, hillclimbs and even a few grocery runs. You could tool around (off boost) like a Honda Accord or beat up sport bikes. There is such a huge amount of feel..... from the steering to brakes (you could feel which wheel was near lock up). When boost arrives, the drama of the way it hits you in chest is amazing. To drive it in anger, you had better know what you are doing or you will be part of the scenery. I did do a run from Orange County, CA to Phoenix in 3:20.... including a stop for gas and a snack! Having said that, my 570 would run circles around it. But it is still amazing.

I guess I appreciated the Modial t for what it was meant for. It was a great road trip car. it was great for tooling around. It's not a track car, but was fun on twisty back roads. It's not an F40, but that's not it's purpose. Mine was a t..... (actually an '89, not '80) so it was the most developed of the bunch.

I've always wondered why Fchat attracts owners of cars that trash them. The 348 and Mondial people are notorious if you've ever visited those areas.

I also can't believe nobody else has made a list yet....

I love the Mondial as well, it is the most underrated Ferrari.

The reasons you like the Mondial are simple facts.

    Detractors come in three forms.
One, poseurs that heard they are bad.
Two, bought a ratted one, then complain about reliability.
Three, (the only valid), subjectively not like how they look.

We’re kindred spirits, I think Mondial (especially the t) look great!

When real car guys; say one that owned a F40 at the same time, sing the Mondial praises, regurgitating naysayers need pause and contemplate who’s really out of tune.

To be clear, my comment about "reading the internet" was very much a joke -- the Mondial is great -- I've never met an owner of a Mondial t, 3.2, QV who doesn't rank it among the best cars they've ever owned, even when they've owned significantly more expensive cars.

Honestly, I think the only detractors are the ones who have never owned or driven a post-8 Mondial. Of course, the vast majority of detractors outside of Fchat are only "educated" by the Internet and have never stepped foot in a Mondial, or any Ferrari for that matter.

The Mondial 8 deserved criticism when it came out due to bad timing on emissions regulations severely impacting performance, and an over-stressed electrical system. That's what sticks in everybody's mind (as a 9.3 second 0-60 Ferrari will tend to do) -- but the internet never got the memo on the QV, 3.2, and t that followed. The good news is that the ill-informed criticism of the Mondial has helped keep prices reasonable. I miss my 3.2, and look forward to the day when I have garage space to get another one.

    Fully agree @peterp !!

The idea behind the Mondial (translation: world) - is that it would meet worldwide rules, laws, restrictions, and regulations. What state in the union had the largest Ferrari market? Here is the answer: the 1980 Corvette has the same rules. (imagine if this low point carried over to *every* Vette?)

That's why you had a castrated engine, cheese graters that were not body-colored and seemed tacked on last minute, and those black bumpers (ala Countach).

It was when Ferrari figured out fuel injection (that appeased CARB), how to make cheese graters look 'cool' (there was an odd rule where intakes had to have grates to prevent intake of small animals), and integrated bumpers - By then, the damage done.

GM makes tens of thousands of vets. The embarrassing 1980 "cali vettes" have been easily diluted. Do the US-bound 187 units (yup, that's it) - of the Model 8 have any such saving grace? Hence, the misconceptions perpetuate today (for better or worse.)

I've met many Mondial owners who relish the negative perception, as it allows the parts to stay low compared to the more popular models.

Oh, I absolutely relish those moments -- I just smile and think to myself "tell me all about why it sucks you ignorant b******" :):).

Of course, if it's somebody who has driven or owned a Mondial, then I'm all ears, but I haven't heard anybody even be remotely negative among post-8 owners.
