That year I found myself on track with it and Heuberger at Zolder during a test day just before a vintage racing weekend.

It was a bus in the chicanes compared to my Formula Ford but of course it disappeared down the straights. I must admit it was a bit distracting, in a good way, to see such an icon from the best seat in the house!

Were they racing with the real McCoy or a replica…?

a lot has changed to 1024 since the 2008 RM Sotheby’s auction.

    It was the real car.

I know that one other 512M which sold in recent years had a clone. When the real car was sold Ferrari Classiche said to the seller destroy the clone but preserve and set real parts aside.

There are more 512M clones around than you may think....from 2011 and on at least 5 new cars

1016 in its very first race at Brands Hatch 12 April 1970, raced by Herbert Müller and Mike Parkes, exactly one month after it had been displayed on the stand of the official Swiss Ferrari importer SAVAF during the 40th Annual Geneva Motor Show March 1970. Entered by the Swiss Scuderia Filipinetti.
