Ferrari is difficult to wear bright green, in contrast to Lambo and McL Dark green however suits well.

You won't have any problems to sell the green GT3. A light green Ferrari will be harder to sell than the exactly identical specced red one. Don't know and understand why, but it is like this.

This is a bold spec with the interior but I actually think it looks really great…

I had my NYC Atelier appointment last Friday. Was a fun experience, and they guided me to several choices I would not have specified on my own with just my salesman. When we set the appointment in December, they asked if I had any ideas or wish list already, and I sent back pictures of about 10 cars that I liked, including a 250 California, 246, etc. I also listed out some paints and leather colors that I liked. That said, I was a little unclear still what the limits of Atelier were over Tailor Made, although in my case it worked out well because what I wanted was essentially Atelier level.

Upon arrival we got some sodas in the reception and then into the Atelier room. They had a separate Tailor Made room with the paint samples and showroom lights on a 296 (silver with French stripe livery); they had an orange/orange 296GTB AF, an SF90 Spider, an 812 GTS and a Roma.

There were two staffers, Isabella and Androtti. We started in the Tailor Made room with paint colors and spent 15-20 minutes looking over samples, I think she said they had over 300 you could choose for Atelier. They had a few dozen paint shapes on the wall, but many were on soft cards.

Surprisingly, they do not use a configurator software, but a massive layered set of Photoshop files with all of the visible options as layers - they explained it was to make it as visually true to the end result as possible. I appreciated this because a lot of the dealer configurator colors look drab and desaturated compared to real life samples. To change colors or materials, Isabella adjusted the colors and applied textured mask filters in real time - as a former graphic designer I was very impressed at her speed and accuracy.

I took four samples back to the room, then dismissed one (a white with an iridescent blue pearl I had never seen before) to get to three we worked with for a while. From there, we flipped through a dozen different leathers and Alcantara swatches/rolls and played with sample combinations.

I learned one of the main differences between Atelier and Tailor Made: Atelier limits you to "automotive" leathers and Alcantara brand fabric only. All of the exotic animal leathers, Frau, Heritage, vintage leather, Nomex, Kvadrat, Hermes, Loro Piana wool or denims are Tailor Made only.

As we narrowed the paint choices it came down to Verde Wojo, Verde Menthe (left below) and Turchese Molvedo (right below). I wanted a one-of-one car from the experience, which turned me away from Wojo. Molvedo is like Celeste but more vivid/saturated, more blue than Francesca. Menthe is ironically not mint, but turquoise. I could only find a single car in Menthe online, a Portofino M... I liked that it had more blue than Wojo. Even Google Images was empty-handed. The two said they hadn't built out either a Menthe or Molvedo car yet. My wife preferred Molvedo.

The epiphany came placing different calipers with the paints and leathers, and seeing the "gold" (really copper) caliper with the paints and leathers, a harmony emerged and we had a working combination: Verde Menthe over Beige Honolulu Semianiline/Rame Metalizzato (an iridescent copper) leather, gold calipers, copper stitching throughout. With Atelier they could override some of the stitching to make it nearly all copper. They showed me that Comfort Daytonas are not good to add piping since they showed me the piping would end at the shoulder of the seat. Small details that made a difference. Black centercaps instead of yellow, to fit better with the calipers, black exhaust tip.

From there, we looked at every available option. For real, they walk you through every stripe/roundel/dreamline configuration, embroidery, piping, trim pieces, electronics, etc. We got up several times to examine the various cars in the showroom area to see what the options looked like in real life. It was pleasantly low pressure and they were blunt about not adding things that didn't fit my vision. Added 360º cameras, lifter, hi-fi, carbon driver zone and tunnel, and I did the personalized CF door sills because I was already that deep. ;)

The whole process took about an hour and twenty minutes, largely because I was familiar with the options and we had a theme I already provided ahead of time. That part could have been another hour if I didn't already know what I wanted for CF and tech options. Within a few minutes of finishing the session, they emailed the PDF of the build:

Yeah it really was a 'eureka!' moment when I saw them all together (and took the picture to memorialize it). The caliper and copper leather were Isabella's suggestions - and if I hadn't seen it on the table like that I would have said 'no way.'

What they could offer there was to match the “296GTB” in copper thread on a black mat, which I did.

Argh now the wait, the wait! I realized on Friday that I'm already 22 months into this order and I'll be lucky to get it by this holiday season.

It's painful ... I've been stuck inn 10G for two months, who knows when it will move to 10R, and I don't have any TM or Atelier stuff on it.

The good news is that it will soooo worth the wait ... I'm actually excited for you. :)

Thanks man - yeah my GTB has been Status 60 for about 6 weeks now and we can't figure out what the stall is there either... I was excited for the GTB and hadn't given the GTS much thought, but this feels a lot more real now that it's moving forward.

Thank you for sharing your Atelier experience here with pictures! Great combination you put together, especially that Verde Menthe. Interestingly the Rame Metalizzato leather was previously a paint color ordered long ago for a 1971 Ferrari Daytona coupe. I like that color used as an accent.
Was your earlier 296 GTB build Rosso Corsa?

You're welcome, I wanted to write it out since it was a mystery to me even as I flew across the country for the appointment - we made it a fun getaway weekend of meals, a Broadway show, some shopping, etc.

So they actually brought out the paint swatch for Rame too and showed us what it would look like for a stripe, dreamlines, or pinstriping along the edges of the spoiler, side skirts and rear diffuser. They explained they could not do the whole seat in Rame leather, only the Daytona inserts and/or piping, something about the type of leather was not ideal for bolsters.

The GTB is azzurro Monaco over sabbia Daytonas with black inserts:

Yes, I had come across it on IG and it was a favorite, but seeing the paint swatches in person on Friday I could see how oversaturated the pictures on IG were:

I found this profile of another car on the Tailor Made site, and this is more accurate to the swatch I got to handle: https://tailormade.ferrari.com/en/cars/271515-portofino-m/

Oddly, older versions of Molvedo are even more pale than Celeste:

Thanks for the additional details. Azzurro Monaco is rather special to, the Sabbia makes for a nice contrast with that paint color. Seeing the real paint samples gives a much more accurate feel for the paint colors! Judging from pictures is tricky. In the past some paints had a different supplier with a different looking result and Ferrari just kept the same name.
Regarding the leather, the tailor made requests you sign a release for certain leathers that don't wear particularly well. That can be a way around getting to use some restricted materials. Still you put together something unique; did it in person with a chance to get a hands on experience with various Ferrari models; congrats!
