That rear bonnet open state. This can cause F1 issues.

 

Fro what I remember that switch connects to earth when the lid is down, might be worth cleaning the connection to earth

 

Mine is currently zip-tied 'closed' as it would often think the engine lid was open and not let me start the car.

I had a similar issue with the 360. Turns out the emergency pull (located under the fuel filler door) has a manual cable that connects to the rear deck latch. That became tensioned somehow and was crooked at the latch, which caused the rear deck to open up when hitting bumps. 30-second fix.

Another issue that left me stranded with a F1 error was a blown brake light fuse. Turned out the wiring to the brake lights was old and corroded. I replaced with a replacement harness on each side (Ferrparts), and all is good now.

Brakes and ABS are common to affect transmissions as a safety feature in many European vehicles. For example, a bad brake switch on a Mercedes will throw you into limp mode also. The problem is that in an automated manual, limp mode turns your car into a horse (the bad kind, bucking, etc.) or shuts you down altogether. So these simple electrical gremlins, which are simple to fix, account for the majority F1 errors when the clutch and pressures are within spec.

 

I am glad it turned out to be the latch even though the warning light that you received in combo with the p1741 usually means the potentiometers.. not the latch

Traditionally, lid open warnings need an earth to illuminate a bulb. That's why I don't understand why Ferrari chose a closed circuit with the lid down on the F430. Also, traditionally, Ferrari wiring diagrams show switch states with all the doors, windows, roof, etc, closed. This is the diagram I have for the switch on the F430:

Having said that, the F430 switch symbols seem to be somewhat random regarding their "normal" state. Maybe someoene could check the switch with an ohmmeter with the lid open?

I'm assuming only one switch for "lid open", so I don't know why you weren't getting the lid open warning on the dash. On the F430, does the F1 warning override the lid open warning? Or do the warnings cycle?

In theory (and like the 360), the engine lid switch should talk to these devices:
Immobiliser ECU (360)/Alarm ECU (F430)
F1 TCU
The Instrument Panel (for lid open warning)
Roof ECU (on Spider) to stop the roof being opened with the lid open.

In the wiring diagrams, all the connections/splices are clear except how the F1 TCU knows that the lid is open. Is it getting data from the Instrument Panel on a databus? The pinout for the F1 TCU pinout doesn't mention the engine lid switch at all.

That is why I believe it is a potentiometers problem more than a latch issue

I got that impression, too, but it's possible that @Ferrari8403 simply missed the warning. I imagine you'd be under a bit of stress if your gearbox started misbehaving.
