Curious what that service entailed. I’ve seen ridiculous service costs from Porsche dealers also, for trivial maintenance items. Seems to be a fairly recent phenomena. Will never buy another new Porsche until they fix it (which doesn’t seem likely).

New rear spoiler mechanism, new PCM unit, new rear window lifters. All very common 991.1 issues.
And a major service with plugs and drive belt.

$18K just for that? You would at least get a valve job with a Ferrari 355.

The rear spoiler mechanism alone was $7k.

For these kinds of moneys, a "valve" job is not the kind of job I expect...

I have a 996 GT3 that I’m thinking of turning into a track focused car or selling the GT3 and acquiring a second Modena and turning one of the 360’s into the track focused cars.

Parts alone were over 10k and indys can't code the PCM, and I don't have a shop to DIY it. There was no winning that time.

Point I tried to make is Porsches aren't some engineering masterpieces that never fail. They do, and they are expensive to fix when the time comes.

What's night and day between P and F is parts availability and support. Ferrari seems to actively hate it's customers.

I’ll report back in 12 MO’s on reliability of the 991.1 tt. Picked it up cpo for 95k… w 65k miles. Comes w 2 yr warranty.

I’ve got my eye this after my wife wants something different.. I may take over the 991 and go nuts w mods…. Intercoolers exhaust cats Div valves and tune… 700+ hp pretty easily.

Yes, Ferrari build quality is sub-par compared to almost any manufacturer. I have a more modern one, a Cali T, and I've already replaced some items that would never break on any other car (window switches, coolant tank, stickies and so on).

I feel Ferrari isn't even trying. Compared to a Ferrari, Porsche is awesome. But it doesn't mean Porsche is "good".

It is a much more special car to drive than a 911, just that some things in a F make you just shake your head. Like said sticky switches. They have been an issue since the 90's, every single one will turn sticky eventually, often in a matter of a few years. Yet they have done nothing to even try to mitigate it.

My conspiracy theory is that they do sticky buttons on purpose to make the car seem worn out and nudge customers into upgrading. There is no other reason in my mind for it to have been a problem over so many years.

I saw a 996 today at cars n coffee and although I would agree that the porka’s build quality especially the interior is good the 360 is in an entirely different league aesthetically and mechanically, the beautiful curvilinear bodywork of the spider’s aging extremely well and the engine is just fabulous not to mention bulletproof, in my humble opinion [emoji4]

New to this. I own both. The stability of the AWD 996tt is incredible. You never realize your doing 120 and never lose control. Also never get noticed. AHH but the 360. You feel you are driving a legendary car. Everyone notices it even more people than notice my 993 cab. It speaks a totaly different language and you feel you are going faster than you are. I take the 993 for leisurely drive, the 996 to speed in sports car luxury and the 360 when I want exiliration. Just a lot of fun

Sounds lovely, I’ve had my car for 7 years and am genuinely interested in a 996, the earlier the better.

I am a massive car enthusiast and a lover of all the manufacturers, especially Porsche and Ferrari ... However, you cannot compare a 360 to a 966 in the looks department, sound or driving experience. One is stunningly beautiful, and the other ... welllllll not so much. Now looks are individually subjective but even if someone offered me an incredible deal on a 966 I'd pass. There's no way I'm waking into my garage and looking at that front end and those headlights. When I walk into my garage I'm filled with excitement and pride every time I see this ...

Again, just my 2 cents ...
    Cheers

FYI: Sticky buttons are also an issue on some 911s. Can't remember what years.

Maybe I’m shallow hal but I just love the looks of my 996 turbo and the 360.

i’m blessed to own and love the two unloved variants per some car mag boards!

    shallow Hal here…

I have other opinions about the 430 and cs as a bit overdone body kits and makeovers of the orig modena… but that might get my fchat card pulled for life.

What year 360? What year is your 996 tt? To make a fair comparison both cars should be from about the same production year-- and close in overall mileage.
Don't get me wrong. My 993 had just under 50K miles on it and at 22 years old (it was a 1995) I had only minor issues. Great car. Since the 993 I've seen IMS failures, GT3 nationwide recall do to engine replacements, and so many other engineering shortcomings that I Traded my 993 for my 360 six and a half years ago.
    I haven't looked back.
