Books-What about owners that get cars serviced every year re fluids and the basics, the books are stamped BUT they don't do any major work required?
If the car has been serviced by Ferrari or a recognised independent, the books won't be stamped unless everything is checked. The bigger problem is that few owners do the mileage required for normal service intervals, so nothing is done for years at a time. I used to do fluids and filters annually but gave the car to Sal or the dealer when the mileage-determined services were due. Years-old coolant is no longer protecting anything, let alone the petrol that's built up in the oil or water in brake fluid.
Checked does not mean the item or issue has been repaired ? For instance cam belts ,I've seen that Porkers ,where the 6 year/60,000km limit is and the belt is not replaced but the service book stamped !
I suspect this is the case a lot. I just had a look at a 599 GTB here in Sydney. 2008, 20,000 kms. Cosmetically mint (apart from sticky buttons and 12-year old tyres). The book stated it has been serviced roughly every 4-years since new, and only a few thousand kms per year, but I have no idea what was done (or what wasn't). Leaking shocks, F1 pumps, clutches, heat exchanges, gaskets, seals. mounts and God knows what else all need replacing at some point, but you'd have no idea by looking at the book or the car. Some people will say 'just leave it, we'll do it next time' and it probably still gets the stamp.
Mine is serviced annually by Marc Jones, fluids, hoses, brakes and anything he deems is a safety issue and then he fixes any loose panels inside the wheel arches due to my mileage as I drive mine a LOT. Now due for major service , belts tensioners, filters, etc Always stamped with a printout of the items that were serviced
Seen this car, UK car with the usual rust, and it’s a bit ratty tbh. Needs a bit done to it. Definitely not what they are asking. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Invoices > stamps The real history is in the invoices. If I didn't have 20+ years of invoices I wouldn't have otherwise known I'm on my third alternator It's a 355 thing.
Its one of the oldest tricks in the selling of cars - "oh I service my cars every year! My reply has always been "Can I see the invoices ?
I guessed that without needing to see the car, but it's forbidden to say anything critical of UK imports here The fact is that hundreds of unsaleable-at-home UK 360's came here and were flipped for a quick buck. They might be shiny red on top, but they're nasty underneath and the ownership experience will break your heart. Never forget: there's no such thing as a cheap Ferrari Sent from my SM-T710 using FerrariChat.com mobile app
