I just scored a new-in-box set of CIBIE Type 35 fog lights, complete with switchgear and relay, as part of Euro look conversion project. Can anyone here tell me where the on/off switch and flash-to-pass lever were located in the cockpit Euro QV's? It's not intuitively obvious, and I have looked at interior photos of late Euro spec 308's to no avail.

    Thanks.

Mine is a 2vi but I’m pretty sure the console layout is the same , the fog light switch is to the side of the parking brake, but only operates the rear fog lights , the front flash to pass lights are just that, flash by pulling the headlight stalk towards you. I don’t think it was a factory option to have them on all the time. Not an expert on QV so I’m happy to be corrected

I can the logic of that. The dash is pretty tight and crowded as it is, and ergonomic placement of switches was never an Italian strong suit. These are the switches that came with my Cibies. One is the on-and-off--that is pretty easy to place, but the flash-to-pass is going to take some thought.

You can purchase the proper Ferrari switch with the mouse ear toggle to match the rest.

Yeah, there is a strange little hole in the dash panel, just below the ignition switch. There may not be room for the stock OEM Ferrari switch box behind it (they are like two inches deep) but if I take any old chrome toggle switch and grind the end until I can fit one of the little lollipop bakelite switch covers, it'll will look pretty close.

I'm thinking I may install the flash-to-pass lever in that funny little pocket outboard of the steering column where the older 308's had a gauge pod. In fact, they might both end up there. It's possible I'll have to shorten that lever though, so I don't hit it with my knee though.

The 248/82 euro 308QV schematic identifies those lights only as "Daylight flashing" = so there wouldn't be any on/off switch. Per the schematic, if the headlight pods are down and you pull back the turn signal stalk, those lights flash. If the headlight pods are up and you pull back the turn signal stalk, one of the headlights on each side flashes (didn't bother to figure out which one and it can easily be changed by moving a wire at the bottom of the fuseblock). IMO, Larry picked an appropriate place to add a fog light on/off switch.

If you add a ...101 relay like on the 248/82 schematic, you should be able to not need the Cibie flash-to-pass switch and have the turn signal stalk work like the euro:

Pods down = ...101 relay not enegized = turn signal flash-to-pass signal goes to the fog lights
Pods up = ...101 relay energized = turn signal flash-to-pass signal goes to the headlights

Hmm, Ferrari's thinking: "our clients don't really drive their cars in fog, if they can avoid it, but they do like to PASS people." And in Europe, people understand that flashing your lights isn't analogous to giving someone the finger, as American drivers seem to think.

My intended use-case does, in fact, includes having the foglights on solidly on. And my steering column switch assembly has been on borrowed time for several years now, so I may just avoid messing with it this time, and install the on/off switch and a flash-to-pass momentary toggle (Or a single-three way for both functions) in that useless little pocket by the door. That way, I'm not cutting anything, and when I finally bite the bullet and replace that steering column switch, I can revisit how I want the thing wired.

If I'm fabbing up a custom panel to fill that pocket, I might as well add a voltmeter too, while I'm at it. I'm kind of surprised the car didn't come with one in the first place. I think they corrected that in the 328 . . .

That's correct, that switch is for the rear fog lights - brighter red lights (mounted under the rear bumper, 1 on each side) on UK-spec cars as required by law. When the switch is on, the rear lights only come on when the headlights are on as well. Here's the rear fog switch on my 84 QV:

Also the 2 rear fog lights on my 84 Euro QV (LHD, but was delivered on Jersey, Channel Islands, in UK specification aside from LHD)
