You get what you pay for. Especially if tolerances and quality control is not part of the contract. Running a business can be complicated and upgrading the facilities too soon or too late has its penalties.

 

For whatever reason, I suspect the EAG players have not lawyered up yet. You have to imagine the first thing any lawyer would tell a client is to STFU. No Internet posts. Take down whatever you can.

You get what you specify, only an idiot would contract manufacturing in China without tolerance/QC parameters. Ideally you'd have one of your own team to do QC in situ, but on a simple product like this, there's no need.

 

Representatives for EAG reached out to an independent whose done a lot of conversion (and fixed the stuff they got wrong) to ask if he would buy their IP

 

Pennies on the dollar I assume, as the IP is freely available to copy these days.

I have a feeling those who were close to or collaborated with EAG's knew about the crooked business way before the volcano blew. They hung on and chased the money as long as they could or as much money they could get back from Art.
Dan is not an innocent victim as many may think. He's shady as well.
I warned people here on FChat about Art and EAG for years. .....been called an a**hole for it by some. (you know who you are)
I hope I deterred some people not getting ripped off.

Same here. Great product but garbage human being. For all you shills for Art, shame on you. Your parents would be ashamed of you.

 

I can only speak to being a customer, Art was always very good to me. The only gripe i can come up with is some stuff took longer than i wld have liked but ive had that with everyone.
I bought the scud sight unseen while it was in a warehouse in naples florida, and some months later i had the first fully functioning scud. If Art got himself into a ponzi scheme the dust will settle, but man there sure were a lot of people wanting to get their hands into the mix.

 

At this point EAG is worthless. The most valuable thing they had was brand recognition and customer base. That has basically evaporated. Anybody actually serious in getting into the conversion business can likely do their own reverse engineering of the stock setup for much less than whatever EAG is trying to get to cover their losses.

 

I disagree… the man still has the chops and vision to engineer other manual swaps…. That is the long game.

100%. Their IP is worthless, particularly their actuator mechanism that tries to replicate the very expensive Ferrari parts but doesn't consistently allow into 2nd or 4th.

The IP has nothing to do with Art's future engineering abilities. You can't buy the man himself (that's illegal).

 

I take it and I'm just guessing that IP means internal programming. Is that correct?

I don't like getting into any discussions related to my competitors but when I see statements too far from reality I need to comment.

$1000 per kit in China was mentioned in 100 quantity. Maybe to CNC a bunch of parts which are a subset of the kit and are either useless for automotive applications or need substantial post-processing. Just because someone scanned a part, converted it into a CAD model and CNCed it, it does not automatically mean that the part is suitable for use in a car.

After a substantial amount of engineering time (and money) is spend on *Engineering* the kit first, proper manufacturing needs to be done. Tthat's why at Cambio Manuale (Dr S) we manufacture the key, difficult kit components in Europe and USA, so we can control it ourselves. I've seen competitor kit parts which were manufactured from incorrect metals, to incorrect tolerances, with incorrect engineering design ideas and incorrect post processing (lack of heat treatment etc). Details and specifics available upon request.

That's why kits which are not done correctly result in wobbly shifters and poor shifting to start, and/or will deteriorate to unusable after several thousand miles. So to do it correctly it takes many *thousands* of dollars per one kit in 100 quantities to manufacture, AFTER all the setup, engineering and testing already done up front.

 

You've defended and backed Art and EAG for years..... and during those years, you discredited peoples complaints, warnings, and frustrations with EAG's practices.

On behalf of the people who asked for help connecting with EAG, i believe they were all satisfied. For a handful of people i definitely questioned their pov/incentive and wld do so again. i'll leave to you to assign the a**hole factor.
