    Hi everyone,

I am 192cm tall (slim) and in the market to buy a 488 GTB in Europe. It will be my first Ferrari.

I have a question regarding the seats. As far as I am aware there are the standard and racing seats available. From what I have read the racing seats have a slightly lower seating position. I guess the safest bet for me would be to get the racing seats but the issue is that there are just not so many cars available with sports seats.

So my question is, do you think racing seats are a must have for me or should a person with my heights also have enough headroom with the standard seats?

    Thanks for your help!

I think you’d be fine either way.

For this price of a purchase I’d highly recommend you go to a dealer and sit in both types and decide for yourself. I’m not sure anyone can tell you what would be the best fit for you since everyone’s build is different. (Someone may be the same height as you but they have longer legs and a shorter torso. Maybe they have shorter legs but longer torso. Each variation would make a difference in the seat).

Standard seats will likely be fine….. but, racing seats are so gorgeous, so exotic looking that you’d be well served waiting. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a car without racing seats.

I hear you. I already asked two dealers in my area but they do not have 488 GTBs with racing seats available right now. I will keep trying to find a way to find one.

Regarding the seat positioning, does anyone know how much lower the racing seats are compared to a standard seat? Can the height be adjusted manually on the fly? And is it just lower than the standard seat or does it also offer more leg room in the front?

    Thanks for all your advice!

Carbon racing seats are the only way. They look cool and improve the feeling of driving the car in a spirited way.

My butt has had the opportunity to try both seats extensively. At 185cm tall I find the racing seats offer much more leg and headroom. Definitely something to consider if you plan on doing any track events that require wearing a helmet.

I am not planning to take the car on track.

I will try to find a dealer which has both seats available. I guess it is fair to assume that both seats leave enough headroom for some with 192cm and not wearing a helmet for track?

I'm the same height as you. 6'2 and have race seats. When I wear a Helmet, I have to slouch down in my seat. Even then, my helmet still touches the roof. But, I have a thiccc ass.

The "racing" seats re not real racing seats. Ferrari just calls them that. However they are very cool, look outstanding and very comfortable. My 488 has standard electric seats. I am 6'4" tall and fit but I fit better in "Racing" seats.

lol… lucky for me…insurance. I’m going through a whole new socket…upper part that my residual limb (stump) fits in right now. Doing a new Boa system on it…like ski boots etc. Lose to get in and tighten it up …I prefer my fit tight…don’t you? It’s all carbon. We may do red carbon weave but not sure. Knee on down to foot is very adjustable for height and alignment.

Seat height adjustment for the racing seat was offered as an option but at £1400 GBP, it wasn't a common choice.

Just to reiterate what others have already said, a good friend who is 6' 3" has standard seats and doesn't have any problems whatsoever with them.

Have to agree. Having tried both the race seats are so much better.

Race seats provide more headroom and lower your knees for better steering wheel clearance. I’m 6’4 275 lbs and they were a must-have for me. I find them to be very comfortable, too!
