I was told there is an Italian company making reproduction mufflers for USA spec 1978 GTBs with cats "...but they're expensive." At that point my phone conversation was broken. I'm thinking they can't be as expensive as a Tubi muffler.

Is there such a company? Thanks, Chaz

Have a look on. P D Gough web site in Nottingham, UK. They sell in the US under the name Nuvalari . Not sure if that’s right spelling. Their uk web site has pics of what they make

Ansa reproduces the exhaust for the boxers, the mufflers, the manifolds etc. They aren't exactly correct but as close as you will get that isn't OEM. I would reach out to them and yes they are very expensive.

Thank you, I thought my post had been swallowed whole and lost in the guts of the forum. Yes, Ansa makes them but (the dealers aren't sure about this) the muffler supposedly requires tweaking by a muffler shop. That's okay with me and shouldn't be difficult to do. What is difficult is getting the dealers (I've spoken with 2) to describe how much modifying is necessary and to give me a price estimate. One said "$2,800" which I don't find unreasonable...if it works.

I'll look into Gough and Nuvolari.

Mike, I just emailed Nuvolari USA with my inquiry. Hopefully, I'll get a reply tomorrow. Thanks!

The muffler Nouvalari sent to me last year required cutting and welding of the left inlet pipe and the right side intermediate pipe to fit properly. Oh, and it took a 5/8" spacer on the left mount for it to sit level across the car. They wouldn't take ownership of the issue, telling me something must be off with my car. So I said "F... it" and just modified it to suit. Other than that, it's beautifully made, and sounds great:)

Ive also had to make Nuvolari systems fit and bell and the very expensive Ansa 365 boxer reproduction systems. I have a Tubi on my 308 but I didn't install it, it came on the car and looks to fit fine.

The entire range of 308 thru 328 is a PITA for mufflers and exhaust systems. Ferrari constantly tweaked/modified or updated some little but making it nigh impossible to mfg a std version for a given model. Mount locations changed or varied, euro vs USA, spacing etc.
So it's doable, but requires more then just model but also yr of mfg. And even then, it'll need tweaking to fit most times.

There's a fair amount of 'slop' in the fitment of the exhaust system, I've found it best to have the headers mounted, the rest is loosely in place. The mufflers mounted then go back and tighten up the system, otherwise you'll be fighting it.

I also had to the same with one outlet pipe. The other one wasn't a perfect fit but I wrestled it into place.
It certainly wasn't a case of unpacking the exhaust, sliding it in & doing some bolts up.
If I had known, I would have taken the car to them and taken advantage of their fitting service (I am in the UK). It would have probably worked out cheaper & quicker!

I agree with all comments above. I would send my muffler and the replacement to a (good!) muffler shop and have them match the fit. No emailed reply from Nuvolari so I'll have to telephone! I guess they have so much business that they don't bother with replies.
