I had an 87 Carrera 3.2 (almost exactly like the one in that listing) at the same time as an 86 Mondial 3.2. I almost never drove the Carrera 3.2. The Mondial was just so much more visceral and raw to drive, while still being refined with coldish air (Italian A/C beats air-cooled German A/C, though only barely). The Carrera was a great car, but pretty boring to drive compared to the Mondial. Except for the "timing belt tax", the Mondial 3.2 was as easy to maintain as the Porsche. I think the Ferrari 3.2 V8 engine is far more bulletproof than most Porsche air-cooled. The Porsche 3.0 in the SC was probably the only air-cooled 911 engine that had longevity -- that engine was good for 200k+ miles easily -- other air-cooled 911 engines are pretty tired by 100k miles (still run reliably, but tired). That is what I like about them-You could be driving a current GT3 Touring, IMO the finest modern driveable sports car and few would look at it ..There NOT a look at me look at me car !
Nice pair. Looks like Baltic or Venetian on the 911 and Prugna on the Mondial, is that correct? Both cars appear spectacular in those colour schemes. Especially the Mondial. Do you have any more images you could share?
Once again the reason I buy new model Porsches, a major service on the 911, 24-hour turnaround, including cam-belt replacement $1,500. Try doing that with a 458/488 be like what 5/7K? and be a week !
Drivebelt -perhaps you should stick to fitting tyres ...are you qualified? So what would be a major service cost on YOUR 458/488 including replacing the drive belt ?
Good advice. If I owned a 488, the major service would be zero, it would still be under the complimentary service charge, probably. I'd certainly maintain a 458/488 myself if I had one and once out of the complimentary service period. The issues would be the electronics. I have no facility for that, I'd get the dealer to scan it and do all the brakes, filters and fluids myself. I'd also do the cam chain when it broke and rebuild the engine myself when it self destructed at 120,000 kms
Macan major service is like $5k.. Minor $1k Medium $2k Minor again $1k Major $5k plus they try to change brakes and disc. Boom $2k front and $2k back
