The car was down for service so i picked the techs brains, i did not want them spending hours of expensive labour on it. Not had chance yet but first need to be sure window is not dropping a tiny bit and coming off micro switch. If not moving then its height can be adjusted mechanically behind the door card. It would help to know which pins in the door plug are linked to each microswitch so when you adjust you can see microswitch operating. He was saying it is either dropping a tiny bit or needs the glass lifted mechanically
Image Unavailable, Please Login Switch S029. Image Unavailable, Please Login (looking at face of plug on door) Pins 8 & 12 should show the status of the switch. Window down... switch closed (if my notes are correct). On the door pillar side, pin 8 goes to the ECU. Pin 12 is common earth (earth). You could also check the switch at the Window ECU (plug C, the smaller plug of the bottom two plugs, pin 4). Grey/blue wire. Ok, so here are the symptoms I am noticing. 1) The drivers side door window does not open when either the outside or inside handle are pulled. The window will drop once the door opens. 2) The window will close when the door is closed, immediately open about a half an inch and stay there for about 20 seconds. It will then close itslelf. 3) The drivers side door lock mechanism does nothing 4) My window switches stay lit Anyone know which microswitch could be causing this? I dont want to just start throwing parts at it. Thanks!
With the drivers door open, trip the latch in the door with a screwdriver. Now lift the internal opening handle until the latch opens. Do you have any slack in the cable to take up before it starts pulling on the latch- if so adjust some of the slack out of the cable. Then retry opening closed door from inside and see if glass drops first
Wouldn't the switches on the interior and exterior door handles trigger the windows even if the interior/exterior handle to latch mechanism cables were completely disconnected? Not even the external key is activating the windows. At this point it's as if the Window ECU is faulty (multiple input failures), but it may be due to the ECU locking up due to a constant false signal from a single microswitch. The microswitch "11N" in the latch assembly may be on a separate circuit. 360 shown, but it's the same: Image Unavailable, Please Login 11N is in here somewhere: Image Unavailable, Please Login External handle microswitch "5M": Image Unavailable, Please Login Armrest microswitches 8M & 13M: Image Unavailable, Please Login So you haven't checked the operation of the windows with the external key lock yet?
If you look in the drivers footwell to the outboard side, about where your left kneecap is. You will see a big silver box and behind that is a smaller bright green box. This has 2 wiring plugs on 1 end and a bigger multi pin plug the other end. The 2 plugs are an easy push fit, but the wide multi pin one can be difficult to get fully home. When it’s full in, it will be parallel with the box. This is the window control module if I remember correctly. See if that helps, these boxes are known to get corrosion on the card, but the multi pin can come out a bit and give issues
So just some closure on this one. It wound up being the external door handle microswitch. It was slightly misaligned so that when you released the door handle, the cam would not return to push down on the switch. Bending the bracket back into place fixed everything. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Does your external keylock also drop the windows? Someone mentioned on another forum that the key doesn't drop the windows. I'm not sure if it's a fault or this feature wasn't activated on some/all cars.
Yes it does. That is controlled by the micro switch (3 cam one) on the door key cylinder. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks! One of these days I'll figure out which wire goes to which (of the three microswitches) and the internal wiring. One microswitch is for lock, one is for unlock and one isn't used on the 360/430. I'm not even sure if the black wire is the common wire.
Could it be for the window drop? when I unlock the door with the key it activates central locking for both doors and drops the window on the respective door. so one is for lock, one is for unlock, one is for window drop?
There are only 3 wires on the other side of the plug wich means only 2 of the 3 microswitches are used.. One of the 3 wires will be either common earth or common power. The other two are for lock/unlock signals. The two used microswitches are most likely dual function (or at least one of them is). 1) The "unlock" microswitch (attached to the light blue wire), is wired in parallel with the inner door handle microswitch (which, as we know, serves as a window drop initiator and a doorlock unlock trigger). If the doors are locked, the inner handle will unlock and unlatch the door. 2) The "lock" microswitch (attached to the black (?) wire on the triple microswitch), is for door locking. In both cases, the switches feed into the Window ECU (as all microswitches do), so what happens inside the ECU is up to the programmers/circuit designers.
On the picture you have a pivot bolt for the cranked lever, be sure it has loctite on the threads as mine came apart and dropped into the door cavity
And to confuse the issue, some cars have different part numbers for microswitches on the left and right doors. The wire colour order seems to change: Image Unavailable, Please Login
