I recently got my own Ferrari SF90 and I'm uncertain about the correct charging procedure for the vehicle. The instruction manual provided limited guidance, and I find it very vague. However, I would like to inquire about the charging habits of other SF90 Ferrari owners. Should I keep the charger connected continuously, whenever the car is not in use? Or is it preferable to disconnect it once the battery reaches full capacity?

I am sorry I am quite new to this forum and would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions.

I don’t own an SF90 but I’d say with near certainty that you should only charge it to capacity and then unplug. I have an e-tron electric car as one of my cars and like any electric car or hybrid, charge it when needed and that’s it. Leaving it plugged in will do nothing as far as charge. The regular accessory battery can and should be left on tender though.

There is no regular battery tender on the sf90 like other Ferraris. I leave mine plugged in all the time

Oh interesting- I didn’t know. So maybe my response was full of sh*t and I guess the electric plug in also acts as a tender

I was instructed by the dealership to always keep my SF90 on the charger. So I do. I have taken it on a few weekend trips and the car did fine off the charger for a couple of days, but it stays plugged in otherwise.

Of course, I always keep all my Ferraris on the tender/charger whenever possible as 1. The 12 volt batteries are terrible. 2. The cars seem to be exquisitely sensitive to low battery voltage.

Thank you all for the advice. I did some digging and apparently the charger for the high voltage battery is also suppose to tender the 12v battery. So best bet is to leave it on charge all the time. The 12v battery is a disaster, I had to do a jumpstart and luckily everything is fine now.

In my opinion, having a booster in the car is a must with Ferraris. I always keep mine on tender but have had some bad experiences a couple of times with the battery. I bought a NOCO GB50 and it gives me total piece of mind that I will be able to start my car even when nobody is around to give me a jump start. The thing is small and charges off a USB cable so very convenient to use and carry around, especially if you get the dedicated case for it.

2 blue blinking light means its charging. 1 blue light means its fully charged. But just leave the charger plugged to the car even when its full

thank you.... how do you hang your charger... the cord from the charger to the plug is so short. I have the charger sitting on a box so it does NOT hang from the plug. then when not in use. where to you place the charging port... any photos of how you store your port and the charger ???

How long does it take to go from one green bar (close to empty) to eight green bars (fully charged), using a normal US home outlet?

one other very important thing not mentioned above is the order of the pluggings. you ALWAYS plug into the WALL FIRST, and the CAR SECOND. do not plug into the car first and then the wall. also, do not use an extension cord - even one rated for 15-20 amps or more (fire hazard; they get really hot).

fwiw i leave mine plugged in all the time.

I got the SF90 today, I'm using the Superfast charging from the other supplier, not Ferrari one, it actually charge very fast, about more than 1 hours to FUll charge from Empty, 3,5kw charger

Also in the menu system make sure the long term parking is disabled if plugged in continuously

This seems counterintuitive - wouldn't you want long term parking enabled if plugged in continuously? I always assumed that setting lowered the max state of charge while constantly plugged in to avoid premature battery aging. Do you have some more info?

That’s exactly what the service dept at my dealer advised as well to leave the long term parking “on” and I did it initially but after a few days to a few weeks the app sent a notification about battery warning that long term parking enabled and battery starts draining despite being plugged in.

Disabled the long term in the menu and now the entire winter plugged in no warning and the app shows battery to full capacity in the green zone. I’m assuming the long term is meant when you park and do not have access to the charger.

So far I’ve done this with both my 296s and no issues.

I put 2K miles in 11 months on my 296 without ever taking the charger out of the bag. I am currently driving my SF90 the exact same way. The charger hasn't seen the light of day.
