Can you picture this? When you had your clutch cylinder repaired, did you do anything with the big round nut and the hex head screw that are under the cover plate on the back of the clutch housing? You know which cover plate I mean? The one with the horsie emblem on it, it comes off with four nuts. Is there any possibility that you backed off that center screw and didn't tighten it down again?

A mechanic's stethoscope is only about $10 -20 and very handy for tracking down odd sounds.
Its a modified version of the thing all doctors have hanging around their necks in hospitals. The doo-hicky they listen to your chest with.
Only difference is the mechanic's version has a long thin probe on the diaphram instead of the horn shape a doctor's one has.
Get them from most tool shops or car accessory shops.

The actual buttefly is not on the earlier drawing it in this one as number 45 http://www.eurospares.co.uk/userImages/078/Large/078_012.gif
It is controlled by the valve 13 and linkages on this drawing.

Don't worry too much about this drawing look at the previous one and trace all the hoses and electrical parts, see if you can feel (or if you have a stethascope..hear) any thing matching the noise.

Hello. Did you find the problem?
I have the same problem with my 348.
At first the ticking sound got away after maybe a few minutes, and didnt come back before i turned off the car, and started it again. Then again was on for 5 minutes, and got away again.
Now the ticking sound is on all the time, and follows the RPM. Ticking sound is getting loddet when i give RPM. And doesnt go away now at all.
Anyone know what i can do?

What part of the engine is the ticking sound coming from? Top? Front? Underneath? Left side? Right side? Do you have a stethoscope or something similar? Does the sound change with the clutch depressed or with a gear selected?
Can you post a video of the noise?

There’s no point asking if the other gentleman resolved his issue as his was not rpm related.

Sounds like its in the driver side, in the front part of the motor.

Sound does not change, if i use the clutch or put it In gear.
The sound gets louder when it gets RPM. I follows that, up and down.

Thanks, I can see it. That should help the experts figure out what the issue is. The left front area has the alternator, but the sound may be coming from higher up?

I watched and listened to the video, sounds like an exhaust leak to me.

Maybe on the exhaust manifold, which is why he think it's close to the front of the engine.

You need someone who is familiar with the 348 engine to listen to the noise, probe around with a stethoscope, and identify where the noise is coming from. It might have to be put on a lift and listen from below.

    Don't drive it.

    I’m with Pap.

Get the rear of the car up on jackstands, pull off the wheels, take out the wheel well liners. Then get a long tube, hold it to your ear, and probe around the exhaust manifolds, with the other end, to find where the leak is coming from. It may be something as simple as a loose exhaust bolt/s.
